The Pokemon Trading Card Game is seeing a surge in popularity unlike anything its seen in years. Spurred by Twitch and YouTube influencers opening card packs, combined with skyrocketing card values, the Pokemon TCG is readying its latest themed set. The Celebrations set is not only a special expansion just for the Pokemon TCG's 25th anniversary but also unique in that it's bringing back a variety of discontinued card types that the Pokemon community is hungrier than ever to acquire.

According to the official announcement from the Pokemon Company, the Pokemon TCG Celebrations set features a large variety of the franchise's favorite characters. That includes the return a set of 25 special returning cards like the Base Set Charizard, Umbreon ☆, and Tapu Lele-GX. Additionally, booster packs for Celebration will each include four foil 25th-anniversary cards with special characters like Professor Oak, Pikachu, and Zamazenta. Suffice to say, Celebrations is going to be a very popular set.

Considering how big of a hit the Celebration set's release will be, it's no surprise that the Pokemon Company is going to heavily capitalize on it. Nine different products have been announced that tie into the Celebration set, each with unique promo cards or merchandise exclusive to the product. Promo cards will include new Pokemon with classic forms, like Light Pokemon, Delta Species Pokemon, and Pokemon Star.

Releasing October 8 is the Dragapult Prime Collection, as well as the Lance's Charizard V and Dark Sylveon V Collections. Continuing on October 8 is a Pikachu V-Union Special Collection, as well as a Deluxe Pin Collection and Celebrations Mini Tins. Later in the month, starting October 22, a Pikachu VMAX Premium Figure Collection and the Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection will be released. Finally, the Celebrations Collector Chest will also launch in October, though a final release date hasn't been revealed yet.

While the Pokemon Company doesn't directly address the sudden surge in the Pokemon TCG's popularity, VP Barry Sams does acknowledge it in a very circumspect manner. Sams describes the Pokemon TCG as an "iconic pillar" of the Pokemon franchise. He then says that it's a "joy" to see the Pokemon TCG community continue to grow, which is certainly putting the situation lightly.

The Pokemon TCG Celebration set, as well as the first range of unique collections and products, will launch on October 8 later this year. The Pokemon Company will hopefully be able to provide enough stock of the new card set that Pokemon fans of all ages will be able to join in on the excitement.

The Pokemon TCG Celebration set releases on October 8.
