A Pokemon fan has made an incredible wood carving of Tauros, one of the pocket monsters from the original Gen 1 games. While Tauros has been the subject of various Pokemon fan art due to its long history with the franchise, this version carved out of several kinds of wood stood out as a tangible representation of what the creature looks like in the real world.

Despite being introduced in the 90s for Pokemon Red and Green, Tauros, a Normal-type Pokemon, has stayed relevant over the years, featuring in mainline games. In addition, the Wild Bull Pokemon received a popularity boost when it received regional forms in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Released at the end of 2022, these Gen 9 games added Combat Breed, Blaze Breed, and Aqua Breed, giving the Pokemon new typings. Recently, one fan paid tribute to the original form of this classic Pokemon.

Taking to Reddit, a user known as samheck shared wood carving artwork based on the Gen 1 Pokemon, Tauros. In a short clip, the player detailed the process of creating the wooden version of the Pokemon, revealing the multiple parts of the model that fit together. For example, the creator carved pieces for the body, mane, tails, and head. These segmented parts fit seamlessly, creating an incredibly accurate rendering of the original Normal-type Tauros.

Tauros Wood Carving Fan Art

When sharing the post on Reddit, samheck wrote, “Gotta Carve Em All!” and provided several more details about the fan art. According to the creator, the carving was made out of a diverse range of wood. Specifically, Tauros’ body was composed of walnut and cherry, with ebony used for the hooves and black limba for the horns. In addition, they noted that the tail was one of the most challenging aspects of the design. While the part was quite strong, the creator revealed that joining them was a hassle, with the part breaking multiple times.

It is worth pointing out this is one of many woodworking projects featuring the Pokemon franchise samheck has done. They have previously shared videos on their Reddit page showing designs for other popular Pokemon. For example, they have made wood carvings featuring Vulpix and Exeguttor, to name a few.

It will be interesting to see what fan art the community makes in the weeks ahead. Following the announcement of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, many fans have been inspired to create fan art of mega evolutions, which played a part in the original Kalos region games. Perhaps talented wood carvers like samheck will make more Pokemon based on this region in the months leading up to Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s release in 2025.
