One of the Pokemon franchise's most popular features has been allowing the player to have their Pokemon follow them. Pokemon following the player made its debut in Pokemon Yellow, making welcome return for both HeartGold and SoulSilver and the Let's Go series. While the feature was inexplicably excluded from Pokemon Sword and Shield's base game, the recently released Isle of Armor DLC brings back Pokemon following their trainers.

Players have loved to make their favorite Pokemon follow them ever since the feature was first introduced. As such, the inclusion of Pokemon following their trainers in Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor DLC is a pretty major selling point for returning fans. Unfortunately, Isle of Armor doesn't allow players to have their Pokemon follow them from the get-go. Players will have to do a little legwork if they'd like to have their Pokemon follow them, but they won't need to do anything too difficult. Here's how to make Pokemon follow the player in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor.

How To Make A Pokemon Follow You

The first step to making Pokemon follow the player is to take the train to the Isle of Armor. The feature only actually works on the Isle of Armor, and it needs to be unlocked via playing through the DLC's story. Once the player has arrived to the island, unlocking the ability to have Pokemon follow them should be relatively straightforward. The player need only make their way to the Master Dojo, where they will need to speak to Master Mustard. After speaking to him the player will be given the chance to complete three trials, which allow the player to have Pokemon follow them upon completion.

Pokemon Isle of Armor Master Mustard

The three trials that Master Mustard gives the player are relatively simple to complete. The first involves chasing and battling three fast Galarian Slowpoke. These Slowpoke can be a little tricky to catch because their movement speed on the overworld is surprisingly quick, but the Slowpoke aren't hard to find because they leave a dust trail behind them as they run. Afterwards, Master Mustard makes the player hunt for three Max Mushrooms—which Mustard says can be found in the Warm-Up Tunnel—as part of the second trial. Trial number three is the most straightforward of the three because it is only a battle between the player and their respective version's rival and nothing more.

Once the player completes all three trials, they must talk to Master Mustard in the Master Dojo once again. This is the final step for players who want to make their Pokemon follow them. When spoken to, Mustard gives the player the new fighting-type bear Pokemon, Kubfu, and subsequently gives the player permission to have their lead party Pokemon follow them around the Isle of Armor.
