Pokemon Sword and Shield have been getting some much desired updates since the new year began. Despite initial criticisms at launch, Generation 8 has shipped 16 million copies worldwide and the coming DLC expansion pass looks to continue that trend through 2020. In the meantime, Game Freak has once again shuffled the selection of Raid Battle encounters at dens, allowing trainers the opportunity to catch all forms of one Gigantamax Pokemon: Alcremie.

Alcremie is a Fairy-type Pokemon introduced as a Galar region native during Sword and Shield. The Cream Pokemon evolves from Milcery by uniquely spinning with the control stick while holding a certain sweet, which will become part of its appearance. Although Alcremie has up to 63 different forms, most of those unique toppings aside from the Strawberry Sweet version couldn't be found in Max Raids. However, the newest event starting today will finally help trainers get their favorite flavor.

For one week until February 6th, trainers will find the general raid den list has been replaced with a special range of Milcery which can Gigantamax that evolve into Alcremie. These Milcery can be found in one-star through five-star raids while ranging from Level 17, 30, 40, 50, to 60 respectively. Trainers should be aware that Milcery will be encountered one-hundred percent of the time in one-star and two-star raid battles. In the three-star to five-star fights, the Pokemon pool will also have Gigantamax versions of Flapple/Appletun and Coalossal/Lapras for Sword or Shield and Milcery will only have a forty-percent encounter rate.

Since any caught Milcery will automatically have the Gigantamax trait, truly dedicated trainers can now prepare every single form of Alcremie for raid battles. Note that Star Sweets and Ribbon Sweets, previously unattainable in Sword and Shield, are now available as rewards for winning battles during the event. If players are particularly attached to a certain Alcremie appearance, now is the best time to go search for those Milcery.

While purely cosmetic differences, the ability to choose and complete the entire Alcremie set this week shows Game Freak is listening to trainers around the world especially with its recent announcements at Nintendo. Following the current pattern, it wouldn't be surprising if more iconic Pokemon received raid battle events allowing trainers to catch their shiny or rare versions as the year goes on.

At this time, trainers can continue playing through the story or post-game, catching all available Pokemon and doing side-quests in the Galar region. But as June approaches with the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, there are sure to be other leaks and developments for the community to discover in the meantime.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
