Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced a bunch of new and interesting Pokémon. Back when it was getting announced, fans immediately were making theories of what certain shinies would look like. Some were right, and some were very wrong.

Now that some months have passed, shiny hunters have familiarized themselves with their favorite and least favorite designs. While there are many cool shiny designs, there are some others that are lacking.

So here are five shinies we love and five that honestly just suck.

10 Love: Orbeetle

Purple shinies are not that common, so they are highly sought out. In fact, Orbeetle even more popular now since it's Gigantamax form has been released. Orbeetle's design is based on a ladybug, so it is typically red and black. As a shiny though, it is lavender with dark purple spots.

As a shiny, its bright blue eyes pop more. Honestly, it makes the original look even a little clownish.

9 Suck: Obstagoon

One of the most popular new Pokémon to come out of Sword and Shield is the Galarian line of Zigzagoon. Unlike other Zizagoons, these got a third evolution: Obstagoon.

Unfortunately though, the shiny version of this cool new Pokémon is an absolute assault to the senses. It looks like a clown monster that crawled out of a loopy fun-house.

8 Love: Wooloo

On its own, Wooloo is already a darling. Fans loved its orb-like body, its fluff, adorable horns, floppy ears, tiny nose, and innocent eyes. It is among the cutest new Pokémon along with Galarian Ponyta and Alcremie.

So it is an extra gift that Wooloo's shiny form is awesome. It is a black sheep, which is honestly something natural in our world. It is also symbolic of being an outsider since sheep are typically white and symbolize unthinking masses. We might be looking at this shiny too deeply, though. Frankly, it is just cute.

7 Suck: Arrokuda

The most disappointing of shinies are ones that look no different from their original counterparts. Such shinies include Glaceon, Garchomp, Pikachu, Scyther, Blissey, Leafeon, and Seel just to name a few.

With Sword and Shield, more Pokémon were added to that list. Arrokuda and its evolution are one of those unfortunate situations. They are just the slightest bit different, but only by the smallest smidgen of hue. If you come across one, you'll be happy because "Yay shiny!" but there will be a part of you that is a little sad that it's not that different looking.

6 Love: Alcremie

Alcremie is a very popular new Fairy-Type to come out of Sword and Shield. Part of the reason is that they are just cute. The major reason though, is that they are unique. Depending on what decoration you use, when, and for how long you spin to evolve it, Alcremie comes out in different colors.

One of the most interesting colors of them all its when the Alcremie is shiny. It is white and black. No matter how much you spin or in what time of day, the shiny will remain this way. However, you can still change it up a bit with the decoration you choose.

5 Suck: Cramorant

Cramorant is a pretty wacky addition to the Pokémon world. Its eyes make it look like its generous to say that it even has a single brain cell, and it can barf out fish Pokémon as an attack (and sometimes Pikachu!).

Normal Cramorants are blue, which makes sense since they are Water-Type. The shiny version turns it bright orange. It looks like a tropical bird now, except well, it's hideous. Orange is not complementing for Cramorant. Like Obstagoon, it feels a bit too much like an assault of the senses.

4 Love: Applin

Typically, this Dragon and Grass-Type is red. As a shiny, it is green. So what is so special about that? The key is that this evolution line is all apple-themed. Red apples are great, but it's cool that the shiny version still suits an apple color. So we have green and red apples!

Applin evolves differently depending on whether it is in Sword or Shield, but the shinies basically stick to the same theme. The apple parts become green. Apple lovers beware, as your mouth might start watering while training this Pokémon.

3 Suck: Grapploct

Angry octopi are already nightmare fuel. Making them look more weird does not help their case. Honestly, they look more like Lucha libre fighters, but that role should already be taken by Hawlucha.

We can see some trainers liking this design. To many though, the white, red, and yellow colors are not a good look for a Water-Type. It looks like a sushi-themed cartoon villain. If you're into that, you're into that. However, most trainers are not.

2 Love: Polteageist

Polteageist's shiny is a great example on how shinies can be subtle and awesome at the same time. While the ghost itself has not changed in color, the teapot has. Instead of white and blue, it's white and pink. How cute! We love how the object it resides in is the shiny part rather than the Poltergeist itself.

Pink shinies are among some of the most popular like Celebi, Vaporeon, Spheal, Cutiefly, Dratini, Crobat, and more. It gives them a girly twist to their usual design.

1 Suck: Snom

We love Snom. It is absolutely one of the cutest Bug-Types to rock the Pokémon world. That is why it deserved so much better than this sickly looking shiny form.

Regular Snom are white, and these shiny ones are a sickly greenish-yellow. The shiny version thus looks more like a germ than a bug. Luckily, it does get a little better after it evolves. Frosmoth looks less like a germ and more just like a moth with green accents.
