Pokemon Sword and Shield's resource-rich Galar region teems with Pokemon of all shapes and sizes, both old and new alike, such as the Gen V Pokemon Elgyem. Since Pokemon Sword and Shield's release on November 15th, trainers have been scratching their heads trying to figure out just how to catch the elusive, cerebral, extraterrestrial psychic-type Pokemon.

Luckily for Pokemon Sword and Shield players, there is a way. For anyone that just has to catch 'em all, Elgyem can be caught provided they search the right area, and do so with just the perfect weather. This task is easier said than done, but Elgyem is a Pokemon, which means it can always be caught.

Elgyem, and the Weather

Elgyem's rarity is between 10 and 30 percent, and the rarity is actually dependent entirely on the weather. Thus there must be a coming together of the right place and time before trainers can catch this little psychic-type Pokemon. Luckily the rarity isn't dependent on which version of Pokemon they're playing, be it Pokemon Sword or Shield.

For a 30% chance to find an Elgyem, players should make their way to the Motostoke Riverbank, with the ideal conditions being heavy fog. Luckily with the right know-how, players can manipulate the weather to more foggy conditions once at the Motostoke Riverbank.

If for some reason players are still having trouble, they can also try finding Elgyem at the Bridge Field, where with normal or overcast weather they'll have a 10% chance to find Elgyem, or a 20% chance with dense fog.

Once Caught, Evolve

Beheeyem, who is Elgyem's evolved form, is a powerful species of Cerebral Pokemon, with potent psychic abilities that can change the game for players. Once Pokemon Sword and Shield players have taken the time needed to catch Elgyem, their next step will be evolving it.

Lucky players will find themselves with Elgyem at level 29, while the less lucky will catch Elgyem somewhere between levels 26 and 28. Either way, to trigger Elgyem's evolution players will need to grind it up to level 42, which should initiate the evolution. Players interested in taking a more short-term path to evolution should consider using items like Rare Candy, which boosts XP, and can be found throughout the Galar Region.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield is available now for Nintendo Switch.
