It’s been more than a week since Pokemon Sword and Shield were released for the Nintendo Switch, and the games have been quite successful in terms of review scores; however, some players have been review bombing the games on Metacritic due to certain controversies surrounding the titles.

Regardless of the controversies, Pokemon Sword and Shield have been performing extremely well, and have already broken sales records in both the U.S. and Japan. Players who are already enjoying the latest Pokemon games must already be familiar with certain changes to their favorite Pokemon and their evolutions.

One such Pokemon is Eevee, which comes with the most unique evolutions ever. Eevee can evolve into a bunch of different Pokemon, with each having a unique type and abilities. Most of Eevee’s evolutions are simple to trigger, just use an elemental stone like Fire Stone or Ice Stone to evolve it into a similar type Pokemon as the stone used; however, three of Eevee’s evolutions require players to be good friends with the Pokemon. Umbreon, Espeon, and Sylveon all require players to have a high level of friendship with their Eevee before evolving it into any one of these Pokemon.

Espeon requires players to have a high level of friendship with the Eevee and evolve it during day time to get an Espeon while Umbreon, on the other hand, requires players to have a high level of friendship as well, but needs to be evolved during night time. Sylveon, however, does not care about the day/night cycle, but players will still need a high level of friendship. In order to evolve Eevee into Sylveon, players need their Eevee to know a Fairy-type move while having a high level of friendship with the trainer.

Players who want to evolve their Eevee into an Umbreon or Espeon have to be extra careful because if their Eevee already knows a Fairy-type move, then it will evolve into a Sylveon regardless of day or night. In order to stop Eevee from evolving into Sylveon, trainers need to replace the Fairy-type move with any other move. Baby-doll Eyes is a common Fairy-type move that Eevee learns, so all trainers have to do is replace this move with any other move, and they will be able to stop Eevee from evolving into Sylveon completely. Trainers who want to evolve their Eevees into one of its elemental forms like Flareon or Vaporeon will need to find the respective evolution stones.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
