With the introduction of The Crown DLC, Max Lairs were added to Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. These caves are filled with Dynamax Pokemon. After completion of the main story involved with the DLC, players are able to go on Dynamax Adventures for special kinds of Pokemon.

While many Legendary Pokemon are found in the Max Lairs, plenty of non-legendaries exist deep down at the end as well. Did you know the first Legendary Pokemon discovered at the Max Lair was Solgaleo in Pokemon Sword? And in Pokemon Shield, it was Lunala! Shout out to the scientists at the Dimensional Research Lab in Alola who figured all of this out.

10 Dusclops

pokemon two dusclops bumping into each other as team rocket watches

Dusclops is a Ghost-type Pokemon that evolves from Duskull and evolves into Dusknoir. But actually, Dusclops is best as Dusclops with an Eviolite. And with the Ability Frisk.

On top of that, Dusclops is best when EV trained for HP and Special Defense. The best Nature for Dusclops is Sassy. When it comes to moves, trainers will want Dusclops to have Trick Room, Night Shade, Pain Split, and Haze. Shadow Sneak and Helping Hand may be swapped in as well.

9 Gastrodon

Pokemon Gastrodon

Gastrodon is a Water- and Ground-type Pokemon that evolves from Shellos. With a Sitrus Berry or Leftovers, Gastrodon will not go down easy. It needs Storm Drain as an Ability too.

Regarding EV training, Gastrodon wants as much HP and Defense as possible, and perhaps some Special Attack as well. The Nature that works best here is Quiet. Finally, the four best moves (unmatched) for Gastrodon are Earth Power, Protect, Scald, and Yawn.

8 Whimsicott

Pokemon Whimsicott

Whimsicott is a Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon that evolves from Cottonee (which evolves from Petilil. Typically, Whimsicott wants the Focus Sash, but an Eject Button works too. What is undisputed though is the Ability Prankster.

Special Attack and Speed is the way to go for Whimsicott's EV training. And the only Nature needed is Timid. For moves, Tailwind, Helping Hand, Moonblast, and Taunt (or Switcheroo, maybe even Dazzling Gleam) work best.

7 Torkoal

Pokemon Torkoal

Torkoal is a Fire-type Pokemon that makes Sunny Day teams unstoppable. Usually, Torkoal likes Charcoal or perhaps a Sitrus Berry. The Ability here, of course, is Drought.

For EV training, Torkoal needs as much HP and Special Attack as possible. It is of the Quiet Nature too. And when it comes to moves, Torkoal wants Protect, Eruption, Burning Jealousy, and Heat Wave (maybe Yawn or Earth Power instead).

6 Mimikyu

Pokemon Mimikyu

Mimikyu is a Ghost- and Fairy-type Pokemon that fits into Trick Room teams nicely. It prefers to use a Mental Herb. The only Ability available to Mimikyu is Disguise.

When EV training, be sure to pump Mimikyu full of HP and Attack...maybe some Defense. The best Nature for it is Brave. Regarding moves, Mimikyu likes to use Trick Room, Shadow Sneak, Taunt, and Play Rough (or Will-O-Wisp).

5 Indeedee-F

Pokemon Indeedee

Indeedee is a Psychic- and Normal-type Pokemon that comes in a male or female version. The female form, which is in question here, desires a Psychic Seed...or Safety Googles...or a Sitrus Berry...or the Focus Sash! But the only Ability needed is Psychic Surge.

Indeedee-F needs to be trained for HP and Defense. It also needs to have a Bold Nature. And there are only four moves to worry about for Indeedee-F: Follow Me, Expanding Force, Protect, and Helping Hand.

4 Politoed

Pokemon Politoed

Politoed is a Water-type Pokemon that evolves from Poliwhirl (not Poliwrath) which originally evolves from Poliwag. This frog wants either a Sitrus Berry, a Wiki Berry, or a Wacan Berry...maybe a Damp Rock, if Rain Dance is the central focus of the team. The Ability needed here, of course, is Drizzle.

Politoed is actually quite diverse but typically wants to be EV trained for HP and Special Defense. The Natures that work are Modest, Calm, Quiet, or even Bold! Moves, on the other hand, are always going to be: Protect, Perish Song, Scald, and Helping Hand.

3 Charmeleon

Pokemon Charmeleon

Charmeleon is a Fire-type Pokemon that evolves from Charmander and evolves into Charizard, a Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon. Charizard (not Charmeleon, obviously) needs a Life Orb or an Assault Vest in battle. Solar Power is the Ability to get for it.

RELATED: 10 Pokemon With The Highest HP

Charizard always wants EV training for Special Attack and Speed. The Nature required is always going to be Timid too. But the moves (besides Heat Wave and Protect) are a toss-up: Blast Burn, Scorching Sands, Hurricane, Air Slash, and Ancient Power.

2 Ivysaur

Pokemon Ivysaur

Ivysaur is a Grass- and Poison-type Pokemon that evolves from Bulbasaur and evolves into Venusaur. Venusaur (not Ivysaur, of course) wants a Coba Berry only. It also needs Chlorophyll as the Ability.

Venusaur likes to be EV trained for Special Attack and Speed, but there are dozens of ways to go about it. Usually, the best Nature is Timid but Modest or Quiet are just as good. For moves, Venusaur will fight well with Sludge Bombs, Weather Ball, Sleep Powder, Earth Power, Frenzy Plant, Leaf Storm, and Protect.

1 Wartortle

Pokemon Wartortle

Wartortle is a Water-type Pokemon that evolves from Squirtle and evolves into Blastoise. Blastoise (not Wartortle, that is) will go off with a Life Orb equipped. It only wants Torrent as an Ability.

When it comes to EV training, Blastoise does best when focusing on HP, Speed, and Special Attack. The Modest Nature is the only choice here, too! As for moves, Blastoise wants to learn four of these: Water Spout, Scald, Shell Smash, Blizzard, Fake Out, Yawn, Hydro Cannon, Ice Beam, and Aqua Jet.
