During its June 5 Nintendo Direct stream, Nintendo revealed several new details for the forthcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield. This includes its release date, the new giant Pokemon battles, and even the new legendary Pokemon. The mascot legendaries for Pokemon Sword and Shield are named Zacian and Zamazenta, respectively

Pokemon Sword's legendary is Zacian, a sword-wielding Wolflike Pokemon. It seems to carry the sword exclusively in its mouth. Pokemon Shield's legendary is Zamazenta, a Wolflike Pokemon who bears a mane-like shield around its neck. Each also has some special move or a unique ability, as the video showcase the below image of Zacian's sword and Zamazenta's shield glowing. It's possible that these are connected to the new Dynamax giant Pokemon feature, but that's currently speculation.

Sadly, the big N stopped short of revealing each Pokemon Sword and Shield's mascot legendaries' typing, but they will likely be somewhat similar. Zacian and Zamazenta's color scheme is incredibly similar and will thus likely have some similar details. At a guess, it appears they could be Steel-/X, with the secondary typing being some type of contrast. The big N also stated that they can't wait for players to see how the two legendaries tie into the story, so it's clear there's more here than meets the eye.

Nevertheless, the two legendaries were not the only new Pokemon revealed during this Pokemon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct. These include Corviknight, Drednaw, and a few others that were revealed for the game, as well as some returning fan-favorite Pokemon like Gyarados. The evolutions of Grookie, Scorbunny, and Sobble were sadly not among those revealed, but all will be in due time.

Interested Pokemon fans will be able to pick up Pokemon Sword and Shield on its November 15th release date and discover the two wolf legendaries' abilities then. Whether it's connected to the rumored return of the Z-move or the new Dynamax feature remains to be seen, but it seems as if Zacian and Zamazenta will be popular legendaries nonetheless.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is currently in development, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
