With less than a month to go before fans can get their hands on the next core Pokemon experience, Nintendo and Game Freak have been busy releasing new information on the upcoming games. Pokemon Sword and Shield are set to introduce players to the Galar region, a land inspired by the UK and home to plenty of new and existing Pokemon. Along with new lands to discover, these games introduce a new mechanic called Gigantamax, increasing the size and stats to towering proportions. For a limited time only, Nintendo is planning on giving away three exclusive Gigantamax Pokemon for free to players.
Anyone who played last year's Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Let's Go Pikachu can claim a special Gigantamax version of Pikachu and Eevee when playing Pokemon Sword and Shield. These special pocket monsters can first be claimed once the player reaches the Wild Area Station and depends on the save data on that particular Switch console.
Gigantamax Pikachu transforms the electric mouse into a look that resembles its original chunky look from Pokemon Red and Blue. In addition to the added pudge, it also gets a glowing tail and the G-Max Volt Crash move which paralyzes all opponents. On the other hand, Gigantamax Eevee becomes even fluffier than it currently looks along with the special G-Max Cuddle ability that makes the opposing creature obsessed or love-struck.
The third free Gigantamax Pokemon is Meowth who arrives as a mystery gift for all Pokemon Sword and Shield owners who play the game between November 15, 2019 to January 15, 2020. This version of Meowth becomes incredibly stretched out with glowing eyes and a glowing coin on its head. It also comes with the G-Max Gold Rush ability that not only confuses enemies but grants bonus money as well.
The Pokemon Company has been showing off a lot of new Pokemon lately, including a special rainbow Ponyta variant in Pokemon Shield that is actually a psychic type instead of its traditional fire type. The company also showed off even more Gigantamax versions including Gigantamax Charizard which encases its wings in flame and gives it the G-Max Wildfire ability. Butterfree, a classic Bug/Flying type from the original games, retains its normal sized body but gets absolutely massive pastel colored wings. Its special ability is G-Max Befuddle.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield release November 15 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
