With the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, fans are already excited for the next generation of main series Pokemon games. Each generation has included new Pokemon to catch, new gameplay mechanics, and regions to explore. However, many fans love to imagine the possibilities that come with including new Pokemon types.

The last type to be added was in Pokemon X & Y, which introduced the powerful Fairy-type into the meta. One of the most popular suggestions for future types Game Freak could include is Sound-type, since there's already a lot of groundwork laid down for the type's inclusion in the game. These twelve Pokemon would be very interesting to see undergo type-changes with the introduction of a Sound-type.

12 Jigglypuff / Wigglytuff

Jigglypuff's iconic recurring appearances in the Pokemon anime make it and its evolution perfect candidates for Sound-typing. Diehard Pokemon fans will remember the dread that befell Ash and his comrades whenever Jigglypuff appeared microphone-in-hand to lullaby them to sleep.

With moves like Sing and Hyper Voice that would easily transfer to Sound-type, Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff don't need much change to accommodate the new typing. The two could also become a combined Sound/Fairy-type, which, depending on Sound-type's strengths and weaknesses, could make them competitively viable.

11 Snorlax

Snorlax waking up in the anime

Another iconic Gen 1 staple, Snorlax has remained fairly unchanged over the course of the Pokemon series. Known for doing nothing but eating and sleeping, it'd be nice to give Snorlax a powerful update by making it a combined Normal- and Sound-type. Its moveset would need a slight reworking, adding in some choice Sound-type moves.

Snorlax could also become more reliant on moves like Hyper Voice and Uproar, which it currently only learns via TR in Pokemon Sword & Shield. Nevertheless, a type change like this and a strong moveset to support it could make Snorlax a little more useful to players, and a lot more menacing to those wanting to get past it.

10 Unown

A horde of various Unown forms in the 3rd Pokemon movie

These ancient symbol Pokemon are easy choices for potential Sound-types, as they resemble several letters and punctuation marks of the alphabet. According to Pokedex entries, when two or more are together, they access what is described as an "odd power." This illusory power appears in the Pokemon movie Spell of the Unown: Entei.

Currently, Unown is only capable of learning one move: Hidden Power. However, perhaps a future Pokemon game could delve deeper into the unsolved mysteries of Unown, reclassifying it as Psychic- and Sound-type and giving its moveset a long-overdue update.

9 Whismur / Loudred / Exploud

When Sound is suggested as a potential Pokemon typing, fans usually point to this evolutionary chain as prime examples of Pokemon that would benefit from this change. Currently, Whismur and its evolutions are Normal-type, meaning they could be some of the first pure Sound-types in the Pokemon series.

Thankfully, their movesets are ripe for change with the inclusion of Sound-type: Boomburst, Hyper Voice, and Supersonic are perfect choices for Sound-type moves. In addition, losing the Normal-typing could work in their benefit, especially if Sound-typing was super-effective against Ghost-type.

8 Kricketot / Kricketune

Fans of Pokemon Legends: Arceus have probably seen enough of Kricketot and Kricketune out in the wild. Since they're based on crickets, it's easy to imagine them becoming Sound-type, as crickets in nature often make identifiable chirping noises. However, Kricketune's design resembling a composer also makes it perfect for a combined Bug/Sound-type Pokemon.

Kricketune's moveset, however, leaves a lot to be desired for a Sound-typing. Besides moves like Perish Song, Kricketune doesn't have a lot of potential Sound-type moves already in its arsenal. However, maybe giving Kricketune a brand-new signature move called "Chirp" would work in its favor as a Sound-type move with STAB.

7 Chingling / Chimecho

Chimecho flying over treetops in the anime

Chimecho was introduced as a pure Psychic-type Pokemon in Generation 3, with its pre-evolution Chingling being added in Gen 4. Naturally, Pokemon based on musical instruments are the easiest ones to imagine gaining the Sound-type. However, the question with Chimecho is if it's Psychic-typing should stay or go.

Since Chimecho's Pokedex entries emphasize its origins as a wind chime, it would probably make the most sense for Chingling to become Sound-type and for Chimecho to become Sound/Flying. This would also require a huge overhaul of the two Pokemon's movesets, replacing their Psychic-type moves for Sound and Flying ones.

6 Chatot

Chatot sitting on a tree branch in the anime

Chatot, another Generation 4 Pokemon, would be another easy change to Sound/Flying-type. Its design is clearly music note-inspired, and its moveset is chock-full of potential Sound-type moves like Hyper Voice and Echoed Voice. Even its signature move, Chatter, would make a great choice to switch over to Sound-type.

According to Chatot's Pokedex entries, it can mimic human speech and uses its tail feathers like a metronome. With this in mind, perhaps a new Ability would make Chatot more of a Sound-type representative. One idea could be to give it an ability that makes Sound-type moves stronger or more accurate under certain conditions.

5 Maractus

Maractus holding two maracas in a town in the anime

This pure Grass-type Pokemon was introduced in Pokemon Black & White, and, like Chimecho, is an allusion to maracas. This Pokemon is known for its high-energy dancing that it conducts to drive away Pokemon that try to pick on it. With its connections to dancing and song, Maractus would make for a unique type combination of Grass and Sound.

Of course, Maractus will need some Sound-type moves to flesh out its moveset, which is currently mostly Grass-type. Perhaps, like Kricketune, it could use a new signature move that is inspired by its mariachi origins. This move could be called "Shaking Dance" and could confuse the opponent Pokemon.

4 Meloetta

Meloetta flying in mid-air in a forest in the anime

Meloetta is a Mythical Pokemon who was only available via Event in Generation 5. Like the Whismur line, Meloetta is one of the best examples for why Sound-type should be included in future Pokemon games, due to its design revolving around singing and sheet music.

Currently, Meloetta's two forms are Normal/Psychic and Normal/Fighting. These typings could easily change to Sound/Psychic and Sound/Fighting, along with Meloetta's signature move Relic Song. Perhaps a new game that introduces the Sound-type could also feature Meloetta in some significant way, possibly featuring a brand-new form for it to change into.

3 Noibat / Noivern

Noivern flying through the air in the anime

These Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon from Pokemon X & Y were outshone by the inclusion of Fairy-type, their weakness. While their current typing definitely fits winged wyvern, they also resemble loudspeakers, and it can't be denied that these designs are perfect for Sound-typing. Obviously, removing the Flying typing in favor of Sound would be the best course of action.

As Sound/Dragon-type Pokemon, Noibat and Noivern could potentially overcome their Fairy-type rivals. If Sound-type, for instance, was super-effective against types like Bug, Fairy, and Dragon, it could become an extremely powerful combination in the meta.

2 Jangmo-o / Hakamo-o / Kommo-o

These pseudo-legendaries introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon seem like an odd choice for a secondary Fighting-typing. According to its Pokedex entries, Kommo-o is able to clang its shiny scales together to make noise, scaring off prey. Changing it to a combined Dragon/Sound-type Pokemon would definitely fit this description more.

In addition, this trio's moveset already includes moves like Boomburst and Screech, so there wouldn't be a need for many alterations to accommodate the Sound-typing. Maybe one of Kommo-o's signature moves, like Clangorous Soul, could change to Sound-type over Dragon-type, for some additional STAB support.

1 Galarian Mr. Mime / Mr. Rime

These Ice/Psychic-type Pokemon first appeared in Pokemon Sword & Shield, with Mr. Rime becoming an exclusive evolution of Galarian Mr. Mime. The design of these two revolves around tap-dancing, with Mr. Rime's design resembling American comedy performer Charlie Chaplin.

Since the original form of Mr. Mime is already Psychic-type, it would fit Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime better if they lost their Psychic-typing and became Ice/Sound-type. In addition, they could be given a Sound-type signature move that fits their tap-dancing theme, along with some other dancing-inspired moves to replace the Psychic ones.
