The announcement of a brand new Pokemon Snap game for Nintendo Switch shocked fans across the world. It was a complete surprise, with no widely spread rumors having been spread beforehand. Yet quickly Nintendo has reassured fans that New Pokemon Snap is real, putting out a gameplay trailer and over 20 screenshots. Nintendo, moving fast, has now made New Pokemon Snap as real as it can be, as it is now available for pre-order.

New Pokemon Snap is now available for pre-order, but oddly only at two online retailers. Both Best Buy and GameStop have pre-order listings for the upcoming Pokemon photography game. It's still not on Amazon, weirdly, though that's likely to change eventually. New Pokemon Snap does not have a release date, so pre-orders, in general, are somewhat of a moot point for now, regardless of which retailers have them available.

One thing that the pre-orders do reveal about New Pokemon Snap is the game's retail price. New Pokemon Snap will tentatively retail for a full retail price of $59.99, so it's not going to be priced for some of the Nintendo Switch's smaller games at $39.99. Since this price hasn't been officially confirmed by Nintendo, it may be a placeholder price to be changed later.

New Pokemon Snap buyers will get a game inspired by the original game for the Nintendo 64. Within, players will go on an adventure to "unknown islands," each with unique flora and fauna. Players will get to see Pokemon in their own natural habitats, all in first-person, and take photos for memories. If lucky, players may even get to see Pokemon acting in a way that's never been seen before.

The full scope of New Pokemon Snap isn't clear. Questions like how many Pokemon will be found in-game, how many hours of gameplay can be experienced, or how many islands will be explorable have no answer. For $59.99, players will have high expectations, though.

For the time being, Pokemon fans will just have to be patient. Since New Pokemon Snap doesn't have a release date, there's no clear schedule regarding when players will get more information about the game. Hopefully, news will be shared in the next month or several, with a release date in late summer or fall 2020. That's just speculation, of course. Nintendo may have different plans entirely.
