Almost five years after its announcement, Pokemon Sleep is finally out, and players from all around the world can now catch lovely Pokemon while getting a good night’s sleep. But as with any new Pokemon game release, one question pops up in the minds of most Trainers: Can Pokemon Sleep Pokemon be shiny? And if yes, how can players catch them?

The good news is that Pokemon Sleep does feature shiny forms of its Pokemon along with multiple evolutions, but catching them won’t be easy. Players must be super-lucky to encounter and befriend one after waking up.

How to Catch Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Sleep

In Pokemon Sleep, players get shiny Pokemon through random encounters. However, the odds of catching one are much higher than in Pokemon GO, which is about 0.2% (1 in 500 encounters). Like all sleep research companions, the shiny Pokemon show up while players are asleep, and they require special Biscuits to befriend the Trainer.

Since shiny Pokemon are rare encounters in Pokemon Sleep , players are advised to stock up on at least six regular or one Great Biscuit each night.

How to Get More Shiny Pokemon Encounters

Pokemon Sleep players can increase their chances of getting shiny Pokemon by maximizing Snorlax’s Drowsy Power. In Pokemon Sleep, the player’s sleep points are multiplied by Snorlax’s strength to determine its luring score, and a higher Snorlax score means rarer Pokemon will spawn.

For a higher shiny Pokemon spawn rate, follow these steps:

  • Feed Snorlax during the day. Raising the sleeping Snorlax with Berries and cooked foods will enhance its luring power and attract more shiny Pokemon.
  • Get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. By collecting more sleep scores, players can empower Snorlax and help it lure rarer encounters.
  • Stack up on Great Biscuits. To guarantee catching shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Sleep, have at least six regular or one Great Biscuit in the inventory.

Even the sleeping Snorlax can be shiny in Pokemon Sleep. But players cannot befriend it, as every Snorlax leaves the island after seven days no matter what.

Catching Shiny Pokemon without Pokemon GO Plus +

It’s possible to catch shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Sleep without Niantic’s new accessory, Pokemon GO Plus +. For that, players will need to track their sleep patterns using their phones (the game requires players to keep their phones on their mattresses all night).

Transferring Shiny Pokemon From Pokemon Sleep to GO

Unfortunately, Pokemon Sleep players cannot transfer their shiny or basic Pokemon to their Pokemon GO account. The only benefit of catching shiny ones in Pokemon Sleep will be completing the Sleep Pokedex and having better partners for gathering Berries.

Pokemon Sleep is available now for mobile devices.
