Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has brought back one Grass-type starter from the Sinnoh region, Turtwig, as part of the Indigo Disk DLC. Fans are quite curious how they can get and evolve it in the game.

This Grass-type is one of those starters that undergoes a type addition in its final evolution, with Torterra being a Grass/Ground-type. While it was possible to get the Sinnoh starters in the Teal Mask DLC via Jacq, it was not a guaranteed method of getting Turtwig since the eggs could hatch into any of the three starters. Thankfully, the Indigo Disk DLC allows players to catch as many Turtwigs as they want.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced broken new critters and made older ones equally powerful, and it's time Gen 10 does the same with Arbok.

How To Unlock Turtwig

Players looking for Turtwig will need to complete a few steps before they will be able to see it in the wild. Firstly, players should start the Indigo Disk DLC and complete the introductory objectives. This will give them access to BBQs as well as the League Club Room. Completing the base game, as well as the Teal Mask DLC, is mandatory for this. Once that's done, players can then head to the BB League Club Room and use the computer to access the support board. In the support board, players will need to increase the diversity of the Canyon Biome.

Unlike some of the other requests that are available as part of the board, this one requires a hefty 3,000 BP to complete. Solo quests can take a lot of time to unlock the starters, considering they award much less BP, apart from the red quests. Players will need a total of 12,000 BP to unlock other starters. A good strategy is to use the Union Circle and do quests in groups. This way, players get BP for all members in the Union Circle, and also get a chance to take part in much stronger gold quests.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Turtwig Location

Once players have boosted the diversity of the Canyon Biome, they can head to the area to start looking for Turtwig. Turtwig is found almost all over the area, apart from the southernmost and western areas of the Coastal Biome. A good place to find Turtwig is in the northern part of the islands that lie in the southern part of the Coastal Biome.

Considering that these encounters are not one-offs like the legendaries, players can actually afford to accidentally knock out the Pokemon. That being said, players can easily catch it using attacks such as False Swipe along with moves that inflict statuses such as Paralysis, Sleep, or Freeze. Turtwig found in this area is around level 60, so high-level Pokemon may KO it.

How To Evolve Turtwig Into Grotle & Torterra

Turtwig evolves into Grotle at level 18, and into Torterra at level 32. Neither Grotle nor Torterra is found in the wild, and players can only obtain them by leveling up Turtwig. Since Turtwig is much higher leveled in this area, players can trigger the evolutions by simply leveling up the Pokemon once.

The best natures for Turtwig are Adamant, Impish, and Relaxed. As far as the best Tera-type goes, players should stick to the basics and opt for the Grass-type, to capitalize on STAB as well as Tera-type damage. Rock and Steel Tera-types can help it cover its weaknesses, so players can opt for that as well if they want to opt for a well-rounded Pokemon instead.
