Highlights

  • Geeta, the Top Champion of the Paldea region, lacks presentation and development in the main story, leading to disappointment among players.
  • Geeta had the potential for depth and complexity as a character with multiple roles, but her story was left without much detail.
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 's DLC unfortunately doesn't appear to have room to explore Geeta in greater depth.

Although Pokemon Scarlet and Violet missed the mark in terms of graphics and performance, the Generation 9 games aren't without their strong points, with their diverse and compelling cast of characters quickly winning over fans. Character design, storytelling, and certain gameplay elements represent some of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's greatest strengths in the eyes of players, to the extent that they became the favorites of many fans despite their flaws. Though the games introduce a brilliant cast of characters, it looks like one of the Paldea region's greatest icons won't get any time in the spotlight during the games' upcoming DLC.

Countless Pokemon fans are eagerly looking forward to Scarlet and Violet's Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero DLC, which promises to take players to entirely new places, introduce mysterious new Pokemon, and bring answers to some of the many lingering questions left in the wake of the game's main story. Among Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's many intriguing characters is Geeta, otherwise known as "La Primera" and the Top Champion of the Paldea region. She's considered by many to be a character with the most mystery surrounding her following the end of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's main story, but unfortunately, it seems that the DLC has no intention of expanding on her character or potential motives.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Beat Geeta (Pokemon League Guide)

Not only is Geeta the Top Champion of the Paldea region as a whole, but she's also the chairwoman of the region's Pokemon League. Any one person bearing these crucial roles simultaneously would reasonably lead players to expect them to be set up as a particularly consequential character, possibly as a recurring ally or a villain of some kind. Sadly though, Geeta played a very small part in the main story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, appearing almost exclusively during the Victory Road storyline and only ever for brief amounts of time. When she does appear, the only dialogue she has to offer is praise for the player's battling prowess -- something that's already in abundant supply through Nemona, the player's rival.

An interesting perspective on Geeta can be gained by comparing her to some of the characters seen in the previous generation of core-series Pokemon titles, Pokemon Sword and Shield. Sword and Shield were the Gen 8 games that first properly realized the concept of an on-screen Pokemon League chairperson, with Chairman Rose serving as the one to govern the Galar region's League alongside the region's many industries and public services. Rose's dynamic with Galar's Champion, Leon, presented an interesting clash between interests and priorities that reflected the ideals of the different types of people living in Galar.

As a character combining the roles of Champion and chairperson, there was potential for Geeta to have a similar sort of depth to her, though her story was ultimately left without much intricacy. Gym leaders sometimes hint at how Geeta is a strict leader with high standards and hopes for her staff, but Geeta herself rarely displays those traits. Many players considered her to be a pushover of a Champion as well, with the overall strength and composition of her team leaving players underwhelmed with Scarlet and Violet's Champion battle.

Though Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's upcoming DLC seems to have parts of its story tied to the academy, the focus on new Legendary Pokemon looks like it will deprive Geeta of some much-needed time in the spotlight. Still, fans can look forward to embarking on new adventures when the two parts of the Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero DLC release later this year.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
