  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's upcoming DLC, The Teal Mask, is set to introduce 7 new species of Pokemon and one new form, as well as 18 new sub-locations to explore within Kitakami.
  • The leaked Pokemon for The Teal Mask DLC include Dipplin, Poltchageist, Sinistcha, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, Ogerpon, and Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
  • The Teal Mask DLC also features new Abilities and signature moves for Poltchageist, Sinistcha, and Bloodmoon Ursaluna, along with a new character, Perrin, who teaches players how to take pictures in the game.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are following the same post-launch pattern as Gen 8 games, with two DLC expansions coming shortly, both adding new critters and areas for players to explore. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC is just around the corner, with a release date of September 13, and while there had been multiple rumors and riddles about what the expansion would bring, recent datamines revealed almost everything about it. Gen 9 games went through something similar ahead of launch, and players could eventually discover the whole Paldean Pokedex, including all of the new creatures introduced with it, several days before release - and now is the turn of The Teal Mask DLC.

Although it's yet unconfirmed just when The Indigo Disk will launch, with the only hint being Winter 2023, those still on the fence about Gen 9 expansions can now take a look at what The Teal Mask has to offer before purchasing it. As it stands, The Teal Mask DLC will introduce a total of 7 entirely new species of Pokemon and one new form, which is yet unclear if it's going to be considered a regional form or something different entirely. On top of that, it seems that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's first expansion will come with 18 new sub-locations to visit within Kitakami.

With some being different spins on existing critters or species, The Teal Mask DLC introduces several new Pokemon that all seem unique in some way. The current list includes:

  • Dipplin (Grass/Dragon), a cross-gen evolution of Applin
  • Poltchageist (Grass/Ghost), a regional fake of Sinistea
  • Sinistcha (Grass/Ghost), a regional fake of Polteageist
  • Okidogi (Poison/Fighting)
  • Munkidori (Poison/Psychic)
  • Fezandipiti (Poison/Fairy)
  • Ogerpon
  • Bloodmoon Ursaluna, a different form of Ursaluna from Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Ogerpon's typing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet remains unconfirmed, but it seems that current rumors are pointing at it being Grass/Ghost in its Teal Mask form and then acquiring either Fire, Water, or Rock as types for its different masks. As for Bloodmoon Ursaluna, the current theory sees it as Ground/Steel, giving up its Normal type from Hisui, and gaining a new Ability and signature move. The Ability is called Mind's Eye and allows the Pokemon to hit Ghost-types with both Normal and Fighting-type moves, whereas its signature move is Blood Moon, which seems to work like other powerful attacks that can't be used twice in a row, although its base power and PP are currently unknown.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Poltchageist and Sinistcha have a new Ability and signature move as well, with them being Hospitality and Matcha Gotcha, respectively - the former healing allies upon switching in and the latter dealing damage and restoring HP to the user. As for the new areas included in the DLC, players will be able to explore:

  • Kitakami Road
  • Mossui Town
  • Loyalty Plaza
  • Reveler's Road
  • Kitakami Hall
  • Oni Mountain
  • Dreaded Den
  • Oni's Maw
  • Crystal Pool
  • Oni Mountain Summit
  • Wistful Fields
  • Mossfell Confluence
  • Fellhorn Gorge
  • Paradise Barrens
  • Kitakami Wilds
  • Timeless Woods
  • Infernal Pass
  • Chilling Waterhead

The most recent trailers for Gen 9 games' expansions showed new characters for each DLC, with The Teal Mask including a photographer called Perrin, who seems to be related to Adaman from Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Perrin will teach players how to take pictures in the game, as she is looking for a mysterious Pokemon that the leaks reveal to be Bloodmoon Ursaluna, further enhancing the links between Pokemon Legends: Arceus and modern games. Still much remains to be discovered about The Teal Mask, but with it launching in just a few days, players have a clearer picture now than ever.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
