Highlights

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet lack a proper endgame grind for players, with Tera Raid events being the main focus.
  • Hisuian Typhlosion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can be easily defeated with Dachsbun's Well-Baked Body ability and the use of Body Press.
  • Well-Baked Body Dachsbun's Defense stat is raised when hit by Fire moves, making it immune to Hisuian Typhlosion's Will-O-Wisp and allowing for easy victory.

One of the main issues with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in their post-launch era is that, as of The Teal Mask DLC, there really isn't a proper endgame grind for players to engage with, and the bulk of it remains a hard focus on Tera Raid events. The main events are the various 7-star Tera Raid bosses in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that have been added throughout the year, starting with Charizard and culminating with Hisuian Typhlosion more recently. There are still more bosses to come, including some leaked ones for The Indigo Disk, but Hisuian Typhlosion takes the cake for the most "cheesable" one thanks to one unlikely critter.

Gen 9 added plenty of powerful creatures to the game, including Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's infamous Paradox Pokemon, which have all played a significant role in the generation's competitive meta and even in the PvE Tera Raid meta. However, there are also some new pocket monsters that seem a bit underwhelming at first, be it because they have very niche uses or because they are let down by something in their kits. Still, it's not the first time one of them has found a way to completely break a Tera Raid boss, and such is the fate of Hisuian Typhlosion.

How Dachsbun Can Solo Hisuian Typhlosion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Fidough's evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Dachsbun, has not seen a lot of use since its introduction due to fairly bland stats and movepool, and most of the attempts made with it revolve around the Well-Baked Body Ability, which makes it immune to Fire moves and raises its Defense when hit by one. This is a particularly useful Ability to have because a single move ups the Pokemon's Defense stat by two stages, which is a great combo with the Body Press Fighting-type move. What this does is inflict damage based on the user's Defense, and in this case, it's incredibly broken.

The AI that governs Hisuian Typhlosion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Tera Raids makes it try and burn its opponents every single time they don't have the status condition, which reduces the damage it takes and makes it harder for them to defeat this particular boss. While this strategy is particularly effective against most Pokemon due to the reduction in damage from the Burned condition and how aggressively Hisuian Typhlosion spams Will-O-Wisp in the Raid, it is entirely useless against Well-Baked Body Dachsbun.

The reason is that the AI will always push for Hisuian Typhlosion to use Will-O-Wisp, which will not only have no effect on Dachsbun, but it will raise its Defense stat and thus its damage output with Body Press. Maxing out the PP of Body Press, giving a Metronome held item to Dachsbun, and changing its Tera type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to Fighting will all make the fight even easier, especially if players train the dog-like critter to have max Defense and max HP in terms of EVs and IVs. This will make short work of Hisuian Typhlosion, but the caveat is that it's unlikely to work for any other bosses.

All players need to do is:

  • Use Body Press
  • Use Dachsbun's Terastallization on turn 3
  • Use a Healing Cheer if Dachsbun gets to very low HP in the final phases of the fight

To defeat the boss, players will need:

Dachsbun, with Well-Baked Body

1x Metronome

26x Calcium

26x HP Up

3x PP Up OR 1x PP Max

50x Fighting-type Tera Shards

Still, it's great to see some Pokemon breaking the mold in unique ways, and while Well-Baked Body may not be the most powerful Ability in the game, it's one of those that can easily fulfill a given need, like countering Ceruledge in a battle or to single-handedly defeat a Fire Gym. In this case, especially if players have completed the Pokedex in The Teal Mask's Kitakami, it can serve the purpose of repeatedly farming for Tera Shards and other useful materials by simply pressing one button at all times.
