Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC was received with mixed reviews, with some praising the simplicity of it all and the unique designs for new critters, and others pointing out that the story is a bit flawed and not as engaging as the base games'. While the story of The Teal Mask can feel shallow at first glance, it is quite likely meant to act as a bridge to The Indigo Disk DLC, with a focus on Kieran and the story of Ogerpon and the Loyal Three. Kieran's actions and reactions seem akin to a child's tantrums on some occasions, and although the protagonists are indeed very young, there is something about the boy that might hint at him being "possessed."

As soon as Kieran starts developing negative emotions, his demeanor changes throughout the story, and progressively becomes more hateful and power-obsessed. To a degree, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Kieran and Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Volo are quite similar, as they both go down a dark path chasing their respective obsessions, but in the case of the former, this could actually be a Pokemon's doing. Not much is officially known about the Indigo Disk, but leaks have surfaced online about a new "peach" Pokemon that has a lot to do with The Teal Mask, and it could be the main antagonist in the second DLC.

Why Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Kieran Might be Possessed in The Indigo Disk

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's master peach Pokemon was hinted at by the renowned leaker Riddler Khu way before the first expansion came out, but now that it's available, there is further proof surrounding its purpose and existence. The main shop in Kitakami is called Peachy's, and players can see a plush of a strange creature that looks like the missing link between the Toxic Chains of the Loyal Three. A similar shape can be seen during a main story cutscene, and the codename "peach" was also used by Riddler Khu.

Piecing together the Pokedex entries for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, it seems that they all desired something they didn't have, and it's likely that this peach Pokemon granted it to them, becoming their master. When Kieran starts wishing to be stronger and more capable after losing to the main character, the game puts an emphasis on his clenched fists. Then, after losing to the main character again and having to hand the Teal Mask over to them, Kieran punches the monument to the Loyal Three in Loyalty Plaza, and they come back to life in a purple explosion.

At the exact moment that Kieran punches the monument, his clenched fist glows purple for a short time, and it's heavily implied that it was he who brought the Loyal Three back to life - albeit no one suspects it or could even know how. The most logical explanation would then be that it was this peach Pokemon's doing, possibly as it possesses Kieran, who is the perfect new host for this creature's ill intentions to thrive. It's likely that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk DLC will have players face Kieran, with him being much more powerful.

This would be the consequence of the peach Pokemon's possession, assuming it can be called that, as it grants Kieran's wishes as it did with the Loyal Three. Considering that there is no other explanation offered by The Teal Mask's story as to how the Loyal Three came back to life, it only stands to reason that it was an unknown Pokemon's doing, and Kieran was probably just the catalyst. It's unclear what could happen if the story were to unfold this way, but it's possible that it will be a much darker and more complex chapter than The Teal Mask was.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
