There is a lot of content to explore in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC between the main story, side quests, and catching all the new and returning critters previously unavailable in the games. While these activities may be the focus of many Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players' time in the DLC, the Ogre Oustin' mini-game makes for a fun bonus challenge and offers a variety of useful rewards for successful completion. However, there is one reward players can earn from Ogre Oustin' that can be hard to get, but players won't want to miss out on it.

For having little promotion in pre-release marketing for The Teal Mask DLC, Ogre Oustin' can be a surprisingly entertaining and useful side activity. Players can access Ogre Oustin' from Kitakami Hall, and will have to participate in a mandatory round of the mini-game during the course of the DLC's main quest. While the main draw of this activity is the EV-altering Mochi that can be earned by successfully completing the mini-game, players who invest enough time in Ogre Oustin' have the opportunity to earn a special shiny critter as a reward as well.

Player’s Should Spend Time Beating Ogre Oustin’ for a Shiny Munchlax

The goal of Ogre Oustin' is to collect the correct number of each color of berries from their associated ogre stand-ins by popping each ogre ballon and then depositing them in their corresponding basket within the time limit. Players earn points for each berry they collect, balloon they pop, and total time remaining at the end of a round. To add another layer of challenge to the game, greedy mons like Skwovet, Greedent, Munchlax, and Snorlax will try and steal the berries players have placed in their baskets, meaning players will need to balance collecting berries and scaring off would-be thieves to be successful.

Depending on their final score, players can earn a variety of rewards from Ogre Oustin' including the new Mochi items, as well as other helpful items like rare berries, Tera Shards, Mints and evolutionary items. The most coveted reward offered is a shiny Munchlax that can be earned by beating Ogre Oustin' on hard mode. However, in order to access hard mode, players will have to first beat Ogre Oustin' on easy and normal difficulties which requires them to successfully complete three and six rounds successfully.

Playing Ogre Oustin' on hard increases the challenge by requiring players to successfully complete 10 rounds of the game; the reward for doing so is dramatically improved from the other difficulties. Munchlax is one of the returning mons added in The Teal Mask that was previously unavailable in the base Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games, so getting a shiny variant as a reward is an extra treat for fans of this Gen 4 critter. Evolving Munchlax into Snorlax also gives players a shiny version of one of Gen 1's most iconic mons, so it is definitely worth working through the ranks of Ogre Oustin' to earn it.

In addition to being shiny, the Munchlax earned from beating Ogre Oustin' on hard also comes with the Crafty Mark which gives the critter the Opportunist title. This Munchlax will also have its Hidden Ability, Gluttony, which usually only has a chance to be obtained from catching a Munchlax in a Tera Raid or using an Ability Patch. It's important to note that while players can join a friend's game to play Ogre Oustin' co-op, this shiny Munchlax can only be earned if the player has successfully beaten easy and normal modes in their own game, so simply joining the game of a friend who has unlocked hard mode for Ogre Oustin' won't be enough to earn this special Munchlax.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for Nintendo Switch. The Teal Mask DLC is also available now.
