With so many new and returning Pokemon in Game Freak's new title within the franchise, there's a countless number of different team variations that players can utilize for campaigns or for competitive means (Generation 9 definitely has some great Pokemon). One returning Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is the fan-favorite Fletchling.

This tiny bird Pokemon isn't too great at first, but once it's fully evolved into Talonflame, it instantly becomes one of the best bird Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Talonflame has some of the best speed in the game, sitting at a large initial base speed stat of 126. Because of its speed, Talonflame is easily one of the best revenge Pokemon in the game.

10 Brave Bird

Talonflame

Brave Bird is easily regarded as one of the flying-type moves in the entire franchise, especially in Scarlet & Violet. This heavy-hitting move is taught to Talonflame at either level 83 or by giving it TM164. For players using Talonflame as a potential flying-type STAB Pokemon, this is a must-have move.

Brave Bird is a flying-type physical attack that that does 120-power and an initial 100 accuracy. This attack also has an initial PP of 15, which is more than enough for a battle. When this move is used, its user takes 1/3 of the damage dealt to itself. This move can easily take out any grass-type Pokemon.

9 Fly

Fly is an obvious choice for many flying-type Pokemon. Back in the day, this move was taught to a flying-type Pokemon as an HM in order to get around the map. With Scarlet & Violet, Fly can just be taught to Talonflame as a great move to protect the Pokemon and then get an attack in the next turn.

Talonflame can learn to fly at level 74 or by TM97. Fly has a base power of 90, a base accuracy of 95, and a base PP of 15. Fly is also a great move to teach Talonflame in order to take on double battles, as it makes for a better strategy.

8 Protect

a pokemon using protect

Protect is a wonderful move that just about any Pokemon can learn in the game. With Talonflame, Protect should only be taught to the bird Pokemon in hopes to use Talonflame as a stalling Pokemon. The Pokemon would more likely be used to burn its foes and then protect itself when needed.

Like Fly, this could be best suited for double-battles. Protect is a move that Talonflame can learn with TM7. Protect has priority over almost every other move, but when used consecutively, it has a higher chance of failing.

7 Tera Blast

Tera Blast is a brand-new move that any Pokemon can learn in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This move changes to the user's tera-type and then hits the opponent's Pokemon using either the user's special attack or attack stat, whichever one is higher.

Tera Blast is obtained after defeating Nemona with Geeta watching, as it is given to the player by Geeta. Tera Blast has a base power of 80, a base accuracy of 100, and a base PP of 10. Tera Blast's TM number is TM number 171. If Talonflame is the player's choice for a Tera-Pokemon, this move is one of the best to use for competitive.

6 Flare Blitz

Flare Blitz is one of the best fire-type moves for physical-attack fire-type Pokemon. Talonflame falls perfectly into this niche. Flare Blitz is a fire-type move that Talonflame can learn itself without leveling up, or by using TM165.

This move is easily one of Talonflame's best for a fire-type STAB move, especially in risky endgame situations in which Talonflame is avenging. Flare Blitz has a base power of 120, a base accuracy of 100, and a base PP of 15. When used, the user takes 1/3 of the damage, and also has a 10% to burn the opponent.

5 Flame Charge

Flame Charge is another wonderful move for Talonflame in terms of needing to out-speed other swift Pokemon using items or speed-heightening moves. Talonflame can learn Flame Charge at any time, and through TM38.

Flame Charge has only a base power of 50, a base accuracy of 100, and a base PP of 20, but this move also increases the user's speed by one stage. Talonflame may not have use for heightening speed, but there are definitely other quick Pokemon that increase their speed-stat mid-game, so it can be a good counter-move.

4 Tailwind

a pokemon using tailwind in the anime

Tailwind is a great move for Pokemon that seemingly have wings or the ability to flap wind toward the opponent. This flying-type move can be learned by Talonflame at level 47, or by using TM113. This move doesn't affect the opponent, but it does provide all allies a boost to their speed stat by two stages for four turns!

With any battle format, Tailwind can really help a team push through to victory, especially when teamed up with Brambleghast. With Tailwind, Talonflame can not only be quicker than the opponent, but slower allies can get the upper hand faster.

3 Swords Dance

Swords Dance is one of the best moves as referred to by players within Pokemon's competitive scene. For physical Pokemon with high-attack stats, Swords Dance is a great way to help ensure that an opponent Pokemon is taken out quickly.

Talonflame, who has a good attack, can learn this move with TM88. With using Swords Dance, Talonflame can quickly become a sweeping Pokemon as it barrages the enemy team with heavy-hitting attacks and its initial immense speed stat. This move can make the bird Pokemon deadly.

2 U-Turn

a pokemon using u-turn

U-Turn is one of the best bug-type moves in the entirety of the Pokemon franchise, and that may also be because it's one of the few viable bug-type moves. U-Turn is a move that Talonflame can learn by using TM60.

Though Talonflame may not be, obviously, a bug-type Pokemon, U-Turn is a great move for Talonflame when looking for a leading Talonflame into a pivot Pokemon. With Talonflame's high attack, this move can prove handy to certain Pokemon like Meowscarada. U-Turn has a base power of 70, a base accuracy of 100, and a base PP of 20. This move switches out the user with a party Pokemon.

1 Aerial Ace

a pokemon using aerial ace

Aerial Ace is a formidable move that many Pokemon in the Scarlet & Violet games can learn. This move is a great flying-type move that registers as a physical attack. Talonflame can learn Aerial Ace at level 38, or by using TM27.

Aerial Ace has a base power of 60, and it always lands a hit on the opponent (unless they use Protect, Silk Trap, Grass Shield, etc.). Just like Brave Bird, Aerial Ace is a wonderful flying-type STAB move for Talonflame when looking to inflict quick damage. This move has a lower attack than Brave Bird, but always hits and doesn't hurt the user.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is available on Nintendo Switch.
