A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player's recent attempt to catch a shiny Flamigo ends in disaster thanks to the interruption of one of the game's most popular characters, Arven. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have hundreds of Pokemon for players to collect, with some rarer than others. The rarest Pokemon in the games are the shiny variants, special Pokemon who have different color schemes than usual.

While there are ways for players to make shiny hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet a bit easier, it's still an incredibly time-consuming process. The rarity of shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet means that whenever one pops up in the game world, it's cause for celebration. Whenever Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players see a shiny Pokemon, they often save their game to ensure that they can catch it without trouble, though others go a little overboard and use their Master Ball to catch them.

Unfortunately, not all attempts at catching shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are successful, as Reddit user Blaber_Bup discovered. While exploring Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's open world, Blaber_Bup came across a group of Flamigo, a new Flying/Fighting-type Pokemon that has been made fun of for its lazy design, but is otherwise appreciated for its surprising usefulness in battle. Shiny Flamigos are white instead of pink, so they stand out a bit more than some of the other shiny Pokemon in the game. In any case, just as Blaber_Bup was preparing to catch Flamigo, they were interrupted by a phone call from Arven.

Characters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet call the player for various reasons. The problem with this is that players have no choice but to accept the incoming call, and doing so triggers a short cut-scene. This in turn causes all the Pokemon in the vicinity to disappear, meaning Blaber_Bup effectively lost their chance to catch the shiny Flamigo. Now, they could potentially load an older save and return to the area for another chance, but it's unclear how far back their last save was and if that would even necessarily work in this situation.

Regardless, this clip is a reminder why shiny hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can be extremely stressful for players. One recent clip of a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player trying to catch shiny Heracross was particularly harrowing, as they had forgotten to save before starting the encounter and the ultra-rare Bug/Fighting-type Pokemon was damaging itself.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
