Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have sold almost as many units as the classic Pokemon Gold andSilver games from the second generation. Just two months after its release, Pokemon Scarlet andViolet passed an important milestone, surpassing the sales of their predecessors Sword andShield in the same timeframe, so it’s not surprising that the two games have continued to sell well over the following months.

Released at the end of 2022, Pokemon Scarlet andViolet initially received mixed reviews. While these games were an ambitious attempt to create a fully open-world experience, several critics argued that the world was too empty. The games were also marred by several bugs and poor performance during the launch. However, other aspects made the entry stand out and still appeal to a large part of the fanbase. For instance, this was the first game in the series to add a few popular concepts, such as Paradox Pokemon, which are special Pokemon from both the ancient past and the far future.

Now, according to Serebii.net, Pokemon Scarlet andViolet managed to sell over 22.66 million units. This puts the games just behind Gold andSilver, which sold 23.73 million copies, a number that will probably be surpassed eventually. At the moment, the title is the fourth most-sold entry in the whole franchise, still behind Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green, which sold 31.05 million units together, and Sword andShield, which totaled 25.92 million sales.

Despite some early criticism about Scarlet andViolet, these games are undeniable hits. Most of the bugs and performance issues were fixed by Pokemon Scarlet andViolet updates, and the experience is much more stable now. Also, there is seasonal content such as the Tera Raid Battles. When playing them, up to four players can unite to face off against Terastillized Pokemon, which have a different type than usual and are stronger. These raids can improve the longevity of the game and keep players engaged as they play with friends.

Scarlet andViolet may even continue to sell well in 2023 due to the upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. A recent leak stated that the DLC will be released in two parts, called The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, and will be released within the next few months. The continued support of the game is likely to keep sales high and, while it’s still way behind the first generation, there’s the possibility that Scarlet and Violet may surpass SwordandShield.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
