A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet distribution event is giving away some useful goodies in the days leading up to Christmas. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are celebrating the festive season in a big way, and the latest distribution event will help players build even stronger teams with their ideal Tera types.Terastallization is a massive part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, being the defining gameplay mechanic of Pokemon's ninth generation. All Pokemon can terastallize and, when they do, will forego their original typing in place of their Tera type - though the STAB bonuses of a Pokemon are maintained. Terastallization adds a new level of depth to the game, allowing Pokemon that have been around for decades to change their typing and turn the tables on would-be counters in a competitive setting. A Pokemon can have any of the 18 existing types as its Tera type, and the only way to change this type is through the use of 50 Tera Crystals, which can be gathered from Tera Raid Battles.RELATED: Next Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid Event Will Feature CinderaceIn celebration of the festive season, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can enter the code HAPPYH0L1DAYS into the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Mystery Gift Menu to unlock 50 Ice-type Tera Shards. All players are able to redeem this gift once, without the need for a Nintendo Online membership or a certain amount of badges required. The event will run until 23:59 UTC, December 25, 2022, at which point players will be forced to continue grinding Tera Raids in search of further shards.

The 50 shards which can be obtained through participating in the distribution event will allow players to change the Tera type of a Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from its original typing to Ice - though players should choose wisely as they are only given enough shards to change one Pokemon's typing.

A Tera typing of Ice is undesirable to most players due to it easily being one of the worst defensive types in Pokemon thanks to its four weaknesses and single resistance, which is also to ice. However, it is still a type that can be extremely useful when revealed at the right point in battle in order to make moves such as Ice Punch, Glaive Rush, and Ice Shard hit that little bit harder and secure that vital KO onto a key target. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players should choose wisely as to who they use their shards on, however, as they won't be getting another 50 shards for free anytime soon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
