Over the many Pokemon generations, there have been a few battle gimmicks introduced to ensure the gameplay never gets stale. One of the most interesting mechanics introduced is Mega Evolution, which has Pokemon changing into a stronger, more powerful form. There have been rumors that the Mega Evolution mechanic may be making a return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. If this is true, this could launch Mega Garchomp into stardom once again.

Mega Garchomp could easily be one of the most powerful creatures in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It has a higher base stat total than even the box legendaries. Furthermore, it packs a useful Hidden Ability that makes it hard for opponents to strike without taking damage.

Are Mega Evolutions Coming Back in Scarlet and Violet?

Pokemon Anime Mega Garchomp Standing Tall

Recently, there have been rumors that Scarlet and Violet will be receiving DLC. These rumors have been backed up by prominent leakers such as Riddler Khu who have a proven track record of accuracy. The rumors aren't too farfetched, as Sword and Shield expanded their gameplay by releasing DLC in the form of Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. What is unexpected is the claim that the Scarlet and Violet DLC could see Mega Evolutions returning.

The rumor has been motivated in part by a clue Riddler Khu sent which pointed out that Mega Evolutions are the only battle gimmick that can occur in multiple regions, as players see them occur in Kalos and Hoenn. The rumor is further fueled by clues in Scarlet and Violet. At the center of Palea lies Area Zero, which is where the Paradox Pokemon emerge. Area Zero's initialism happens to be AZ, which could be a reference to Az, who is a character that appears in X and Y. This has led to speculation that the upcoming DLC could tie into Kalos.

Garchomp is a Dragon/Ground dual-type that was introduced in Gen 4. It is the final evolution in the Gible evolutionary line, and the pseudo-legendary has become a fan favorite thanks to its striking design and its impressive performance on the battlefield. With a base Speed stat of 102 and a base Attack stat of 130, Garchomp can strike hard and fast. Landing a blow on Garchomp is hard. Thanks to being part Ground-type, it is immune to Electric-type attacks. If players work around this, they have to deal with its Rough Skin Hidden Ability which causes the opponent to lose HP every time it strikes Garchomp with a move that makes contact.

In Pokemon X and Y, Garchomp receives a Mega Evolution that only increases its presence on the battlefield. Its total base stats are raised to 700, and although it is slower, its Attack is raised to a whopping 170, and its Special Attack is raised to 120. This makes it more powerful than Paradox Pokemon like Roaring Moon which has a total base stat of 590, and even the box legendaries which have a base total of 670. If rumors are true and Mega Evolutions are introduced to Scarlet and Violet, Mega Garchomp stands a very good chance of being one of the most powerful Pokemon on the roster.

There has been no official confirmation of DLC yet, so all information surrounding it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, judging by how Sword and Shield were handled, Scarlet and Violet DLC seems like an inevitability. If Mega Evolutions make an appearance, it could be a really special treat for long-time fans of the series.
