A player in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just about misses the opportunity to catch a shiny Primeape after they accidentally set up a picnic for their Pokemon while hastily trying to save the game. Shiny hunters seeking out the rare creatures in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have found that their jobs have been made particularly hard in the Paldea region in some ways, mostly due to the subtle color differences making shiny Pokemon tricky to spot.

Unfortunately for many players seeking shinies in the new Generation 9 games, there have been more problems impacting them than just indistinct deviations in a Pokemon's color. Although shiny hunters were able to enjoy a plethora of helpful features in Pokemon Legends: Arceus at the start of the year, including the ability to easily spot a shiny Pokemon thanks to their inherent sparkle effect and sound, fans were disappointed to find these attributes absent in the latest games. In a way though, this might be for the best. Some of Scarlet and Violet's many glitches have been found to cause players and Pokemon to clip through the map, with recent clips proving that shiny Pokemon can even spawn or get stuck in out of bounds areas which players can't access - and frantically searching for an invisible shiny after hearing a sparkling sound would be sure to frustrate players.

A painful clip shared on Reddit by the user BreezyBag highlights the moment that one of their own shiny-hunting attempts get thwarted. After spotting a nearby shiny Primeape in the wild, the player is quick to jump into their menu to save - but unfortunately, muscle memory steers them into selecting the picnic option from the menu instead. This leads to the player character promptly whipping out a table and chairs instead of saving their adventure, with the picnic mode permanently despawning all nearby wild Pokemon. The creator of the clip is also sure to throw in a fading scream sound effect as the shiny Pokemon and its companions instantly vanish from the world.

Several other videos recently shared by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans also provide a look at other unlucky moments featuring failed shiny captures, including one rather hilarious clip which shows a shiny Psyduck waddling away into the horizon while the player is stuck in a battle with an NPC.

Sadly though, the state of shiny hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has become quite dire as a result of the many bugs plaguing the game. Although fans have made their complaints about these issues quite clear since the titles first released, it seems Game Freak has yet to roll out any patches to fix these related problems.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
