Fans of the Pokemon franchise have noticed that for every two generations, a new Eevee evolution is added to the roster. Ironically, the last Eeveelution to appear was Sylveon in Generation 6. Since Leafeon and Glaceon joined in Generation 4 with Umbreon and Espeon back in Generation 2, fans were shocked to see there wasn't a new Eeveelution in Pokemon Sword & Shield, the eighth generation of mainline Pokemon games. With Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet being the introduction to Generation 9, however, it's possible that the Eevee family will soon be welcoming a brand-new evolution.

All of Eevee's evolutions have a base stat total of 525. Jolteon and Espeon have incredible Speed, while Umbreon and Sylveon make decent walls against Special Attackers. Should a new Eeveelution be added, there's really no telling how its base stats would be spread out. Since the Eevee-line already covers nine different types out of the 18 available, there are fewer options to choose from, but some typings may be preferred over others.

6 Bug

When Sylveon was first released, some fans speculated that it would be a Bug-type because of its eyes and feelers. In the Pokemon world, Bug-types are notorious for being some of the weakest Pokemon. Recent generations have created strong Bug-types such as Buzzwole, but most have relatively low base stat totals.

Since the Eevee evolutions have a 525 base stat total, a Bug-type Eeveelution could be useful during Scarlet & Violet's main story. Maybe a Bug-type Eeveelution could be a speedy Attacker with a mix of Physical and Special Moves in its learnset. Alternatively, it could have high Defense and Special Defense to endure Fire-type or Rock-type attacks - two of Bug-type's greatest weaknesses.

5 Poison

With Fairy-type Pokemon being weak to Poison-type, more trainers have started to see some value in Poison-type Pokemon. These Pokemon only have two weaknesses: Psychic and Ground-type. Along with Fairy-typing, they're also super effective against Grass-type Pokemon.

The original 1997 demo for Pokemon Gold & Silver had Umbreon as a Poison-type Pokemon. In fact, Umbreon's Pokedex entry mentions how it "secretes poisonous sweat from its pores" if it's agitated. Should there be a Poison-type Eeveelution, it could serve as a good counter to Sylveon. In fact, most Eeveelutions have type-advantages over one another, barring Sylveon and Eevee. Having a Poison-type could set this straight, and maybe even have it as a Physical Attacker to contrast Sylveon's weak Defense.

4 Ghost

There are many Ghost-type Pokemon already, but they remain a somewhat unique type within the Pokemon world, and it wouldn't hurt to have one more. Ghost-types are weak against their own type and Dark-type, but they're strong against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokemon. Furthermore, these Pokemon are impervious to Normal and Fighting-type attacks. A drawback is that their attacks can't deal damage to Normal-type Pokemon.

Having a Ghost-type Eeveelution would make it weak to Umbreon, but strong against Espeon and unable to hit Normal-type Eevee. Since most Ghost-type moves are Special, Ghost-type Eeveelution would probably be a Special Attacker. It'd also be interesting to have an Eeveelution that could learn Shadow Ball without needing a TM/TR.

3 Steel

Steel-types gained a new Type advantage with the creation of Fairy-type Pokemon. Their moves are strong against Rock and Ice-types. Steel-types have a weakness to Ground, Fire, and Fighting-type moves. Despite this, most Steel-types have solid Defense and Special Defense while having enough Attack to hold their own in battle. Unfortunately, Steel-types aren't always the fastest, but some can learn the move Automatize to increase their Speed by two stages.

A Steel-type Eeveelution would undoubtedly be a Physical Attacker with a strong Defense and Special Defense. Currently, Umbreon and Sylveon hold the highest Special Defense with Leafeon having a base Defense of 130. A Steel-type Eeveelution could have the same base Defense as Leafeon while having high HP like Vaporeon. Given the look of Pokemon Violet's mascot, Miraidon, maybe a Steel-type Eeveelution could have a futuristic-looking design.

2 Fighting

As expected, most Fighting-types have high Attack and decent Speed while lacking in Defense and Special Defense. These Pokemon are weak to Flying, Fairy, and Psychic-type moves, but are strong against Dark, Normal, Steel, Ice, and Rock-type Pokemon. This makes Fighting-type Pokemon very versatile thanks to the number of types they're super effective against.

It's curious what a Fighting-type Eeveelution would look like since most Fighting-type are bipedal, which the Eevee family is not. A Fighting-type Eeveelution would also be the only Eeveelution to be super effective against its pre-evolved form. Like Umbreon, however, it would be weak to Sylveon's Fairy-type moves. It's likely that a Fighting-type Eeveelution would excel in Physical moves, meaning it's likely to have a base stat Attack of 130 like the Fire-type Eeveelution, Flareon.

1 Dragon

pokemon eevee dragon type

Dragon-type Pokemon are some of the strongest and rarest Pokemon to come across in the wild. In fact, most pseudo-legendary Pokemon are Dragon-types as are most Legendary Pokemon. Dragon-types were difficult to defeat prior to Generation 6 because they were only weak to two types: Dragon and Ice-type, both of which are quite rare. When challenging the Elite Four and Champion, it isn't uncommon to find at least one member who specializes in Dragon-type pokemon. Even with their recent third type weakness, Dragon-type Pokemon are still worth making room for in the Party.

A Dragon-type Eeveelution may have scales or slit pupils to make it have the characteristics of a dragon. It could excel as a Physical Attacker like Flareon just to give another Eeveelution an Attack base stat of 130. Alternatively, instead of going for a pure Dragon-type Eeveelution, some fans may want to see a dual-type Eeveelution. This means it could be one of the more common Dragon/Flying-types, or it could be Dragon/Rock, etc. Other fans may find a dual-type Eeveelution - especially one that is part Dragon-type - to be too overpowered and unfair to the other Eeveelutions that already exist.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are set to release worldwide for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.
