Eevee is one of the most unique Pokemon in the history of the franchise, mainly thanks to its branching evolution tree. Whereas most Pokemon have linear evolutions, Eevee is able to evolve into all kinds of different creatures depending on various circumstances. These Eevee evolutions have also proven to be quite popular with fans, who are often asking to see more of them added. Unfortunately, it's been nearly a decade since a new Eevee evolution was introduced, and it doesn't look as though the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be breaking that streak.

Some Pokemon fans have had their fingers crossed about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet potentially adding a new Eevee evolution to the mix, but it doesn't appear that will be the case. The last time a new Eevee evolution was introduced was in 2013's Pokemon X and Y when Fairy-type Sylveon made its debut. Numerous Pokemon games have come and gone since then with no new Eevee evolution in sight, despite the fact that there are still many Pokemon types without Eevee evolutions.

New Pokemon merch, spotted by CentroPokemon, is said to be for the season of the anime that will be focused on the ninth generation games, aka Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The merch is based on Eevee and its evolutions, with a planned November release date. Since the merch only features the existing Eevee evolutions, it seemingly confirms that there will be no new Eevee evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Now, it's entirely possible that a new Eevee evolution will make its way to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and this merch means nothing, so fans should keep that in mind. However, at this point it would be surprising for a new Eevee evolution to appear in the games, especially when one considers that Eevee was prominently featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's latest trailer, and how the gameplay gimmick works.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's gameplay gimmick is called Terastal, and it allows players to either boost the power of their Pokemon's type, or in some cases, change their Pokemon's type completely. An example shown in the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer is Eevee becoming a Water-type while maintaining its standard Eevee form instead of evolving into Vaporeon. So while there may not be a new Eevee evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Eevee will still be able to take on the powers of different Pokemon types.

There's still quite a ways to go before the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date, so it's possible a new Eevee evolution could still be announced, but fans shouldn't hold their breath. The good news is that there will still be plenty of new Pokemon to catch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to help fill the void.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
