Highlights

  • The upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk, will take players back to the Unova region and introduce Blueberry Academy, a mostly-underwater structure with artificial environments.
  • The Terarium of Blueberry Academy will be a key location, housing various environments such as a savannah, coastal biome, canyon, and freezing polar region, each with different species of Pokemon.
  • The Indigo Disk DLC will feature new Pokemon, including an evolution for Duraludon, two Paradox Pokemon, and the legendary Pokemon Terapagos. Players can also expect high-level Trainers and challenging battles, including the Elite Four of the Blueberry Pokemon League, in addition to the ability to rematch characters and customize the League Club area.

The second part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC isn't far from release, and a variety of official trailers for The Indigo Disk expansion have given the community a taste of what to expect from their trip to Blueberry Academy. First and foremost, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans will find themselves traveling back to Gen 5's Unova region in this upcoming expansion where their new school is situated, a massive and mostly-underwater structure which houses several artificial environments within its walls.

The "Terarium" area of Blueberry Academy is home to countless species of Pokemon, and will no doubt be the part of the post-game location where many players will spend most of their time. According to various sources that have been able to get a hands-on preview of the DLC, the location is actually pretty sizeable -- larger than the region of Kitakami seen in The Teal Mask, but not as large as the entire region of Paldea, of course. The Terarium area houses four key environments -- a savannah biome, coastal biome, canyon area, and freezing polar region -- with each area home to different species of Pokemon, some of which are brand new.

New and Old Pokemon, Trainer Battles, and More

Of course Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk DLC will introduce a few new Pokemon, just as the prior The Teal Mask expansion did. A new evolution for Duraludon known as Archaludon, two new Paradox Pokemon known as Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, and the new legendary Pokemon Terapagos will all be obtainable in The Indigo Disk expansion, but quite a few notable Pokemon from the franchise's past will also show up at Blueberry Academy. This includes not only the entire roster of starter Pokemon seen throughout the games since Gen 1, but also the regional variants of Pokemon seen all across the Pokemon world, according to players who have been able to get an early look at the DLC.

Difficulty is Also Ramping Up in The Indigo Disk

High-level mass outbreaks and Tera Raid battles will take place throughout the Terarium of Blueberry Academy as well, but The Indigo Disk will bring in some powerful new Trainers to fight in addition to wild Pokemon. Just like in The Teal Mask expansion, players will get to meet some brand-new characters at Blueberry Academy. Unlike part one of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, The Indigo Disk is only available after completing the game's main story, meaning that the high-level Trainers at Blueberry Academy will provide some of the toughest battles Gen 9 has to offer.

Gameplay previews confirm that there will be some particularly high-level Trainers to battle all around the Terarium, but the Elite Four of the Blueberry Pokemon League - otherwise known as the BB League - will be the real challenge. The Elite Four, consisting of Lacey, Crispin, Amarys, and Drayton will each have exceptionally high-level Pokemon complete with competitive movesets, but each member will also have their own "Elite Trials" which may not be dissimilar to the Gym challenges in the base game.

This challenge isn't without reward, as players will be able to find large amounts of Tera Shards throughout the Terarium.

What Else to Expect at Blueberry Academy

Players will also be able to rematch their favorite characters from the base game at the academy's League Club, an area that appears to be customizable with different wallpapers and decorations. As for the DLC's mascot legendary, Terapagos, little is yet known for sure about the Pokemon. It undoubtedly holds a connection to the Terastal phenomenon though, which itself is teased to be further expanded on somehow in the DLC.
