Highlights

  • The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will introduce new Pokemon, including Paradox Entei and Paradox Terrakion, and a Dipplin evolution. Dipplin's evolution will be Kieran's ace in the BB League battle against him, the Champion.
  • The DLC will feature a darker story and include choices that may result in characters dying. It is aimed at long-time fans and will cater to adults.
  • Time-gated content will be part of the expansion, with only three out of eight new Pokemon being initially obtainable, and the rest released over time. At launch, there will be Tera Forms, a new Pkhex-like feature, and more.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's lifecycle has been a strange one so far, with a good chunk of the base game and even most of the Paldean Pokedex leaking online months before launch, and both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk shared a similar fate. Players knew about The Teal Mask's story and new Pokemon way before it was finally released, and with The Indigo Disk's release date now set in stone for December 14, players can expect lots of leaks to come - and many were already shared.

Based on both leaks and official information, The Indigo Disk is poised to be a revolutionary piece of content for Pokemon games, introducing ways for players to get every starter in the series, adding another set of Elite Four with the BB League, and more. According to the leaks, there will also be several new critters that players can look forward to collecting and training in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including the already-revealed Terapagos, Archaludon, and the Paradox Pokemon Raging Bolt and Iron Crown.

Every Leaked New Pokemon in The Indigo Disk

As with every DLC in the Pokemon series so far, The Indigo Disk will add new Pokemon to Scarlet and Violet, for a total of 8 critters. Players already know half of them, and the remaining ones are:

  • Paradox Entei, which will complete the Legendary Beast trio with Walking Wake and Raging Bolt
  • Paradox Terrakion, which will complete the Swords of Justice trio (minus Keldeo) with Iron Leaves and Iron Crown
  • Dipplin evolution, basically confirmed by The Teal Mask thanks to Dipplin's ability to use the Eviolite held item
  • Master "Peach" Pokemon, an unknown entity that is allegedly the master of the Loyal Three trio and sits at the core of the DLC's story

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's master "peach" Pokemon is likely Gen 9's Mythical, and leaks state that it will play a key role in the story. It's still unclear what exactly that might entail, but there's a strong chance that it will tie into Kieran's story and possibly even Arven's, Penny's, and Nemona's.

Every Past Pokemon Not Coming to the Switch

Recent datamines of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk DLC point to several past critters not returning in Gen 9, and among them, some are seemingly not going to even make their very first appearance on the Switch. These include the following:

  • Furfrou
  • Pansage
  • Simisage
  • Pansear
  • Simisear
  • Panpour
  • Simipour
  • Patrat
  • Watchog
  • Minior

This list may change based on the actual DLC, but there's a strong chance these Pokemon won't be part of The Indigo Disk.

Dark Story and Characters' Fate

Another leak surrounding the DLC concerns its story. A dark story in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk could be interesting to see because one of the main criticisms of the series is that every title's narrative is crafted with kids in mind over the long-time fans that are now adults. According to the main leaker, a renowned Pokemon insider by the name of Riddler Khu, The Indigo Disk's story will not only be a darker one compared to what many fans are used to, but it will also include choices. These will allegedly ask players to "save" specific characters over others, and some may potentially die as a result.

Time-Gated Content

Khu has been insistent on a specific matter regarding the upcoming expansion, and that is time-gated content. The leaker hinted that only three out of the new eight Pokemon will be obtainable from the get-go, whereas the remaining five will be distributed via events, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Tera Raid battles, and similar other methods. While The Indigo Disk's Pokedex will include all eight Pokemon, it seems that players will only be able to complete it as time goes on, possibly even months after the DLC's release.

BB League Champion and Ace Pokemon

Since The Indigo Disk will introduce a second Elite Four set of trainers in the form of the Blueberry Academy's own League, with the main characters involved being Crispin, Lacey, Amarys, and Drayton, it's only logical progression that there is going to be a Champion to defeat. With the way The Teal Mask DLC's story ended, leaving Kieran alone and defeated, but willing to become stronger, it makes sense to have him as the Champion of the BB League. This is supported by leaks, too, which state that Kieran will have Dipplin's evolution as his ace Pokemon.

A Pkhex-Like Feature

According to Riddler Khu, The Indigo Disk will come with a new, never-before-seen feature that's similar to the infamous Pokemon-generating third-party software called Pkhex. However, this seems to be an integral part of the gameplay experience for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet expansion, and it seems that players will get to choose multiple facets of their critters, essentially "creating" them from scratch.

Dipplin's Evolution, 7 Heads, and New Type Combo

Dipplin's prominence in the DLC is seemingly not going to be just tied to it getting an evolution, but also have a major story role and a unique Pokemon battle against Kieran. Khu shared several hints about Dipplin's 7-headed evolution in Pokemon Gen 9 and how the expansion is seemingly going to turn into a Volo 2.0 kind of scenario, where players have to defeat each head separately. Furthermore, the leaks seem to point to Dipplin's evolution becoming the first-ever Bug/Dragon-type Pokemon, making it even more unique.

Tera Forms

Last but not least, a major point of discussion when it comes to The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is Tera Forms. There will seemingly be "Tera states" and "Tera Forms," changing the Pokemon's appearance, Tera type, and possibly even its move pool.

Tera Forms are likely to work similarly to GMax forms and Eternatus' Eternamax form from Gen 8 games, and Khu hinted at the fact that Terapagos will have both - potentially allowing them to stack.
