Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark were popular hits among the Pokemon community when they were first shown in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Unlike their mischievous Dark-type Unova counterparts, the Hisuian Zorua-line are Normal/Ghost-type Pokemon. According to their dex entries, the Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark are resentful and aggressive, which is how they get their power.

In Scarlet/Violet, players can find the Dark-type Zorua (and Zoroark) in disguise living in Tagtree Thicket. Those who want the Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark will have to put in some extra work. Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark can either be transferred using Pokemon HOME, or Scarlet/Violet trainers can trade for one.

How to Get Hisuian Zorua in Scarlet/Violet (How to Transfer with Pokemon HOME)

pokemon home legends arceus transfer to scarlet violet

Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark can't be found in the wild in Scarlet/Violet's base game. Luckily, those with a copy of Legends: Arceus can get one without having to trade. In short, players will need to catch a wild Hisuian Zorua in Legends: Arceus, then transfer it to Pokemon HOME, and finally to Scarlet/Violet.

Hisuian Zorua can be found in the Alabaster Icelands, which is the last region that players will unlock in Legends: Arceus. They will only spawn in the underground caves in the Bonechill Wastes. Simply drop down into one of the pits and follow the path. Not every cave will have a Zorua, but some drop into a dead-end with Hisuian Zorua and some Ghost-type Pokemon.

Alternatively, players can hope for Zoruas in mass outbreaks (Alabaster Icelands). If they're in the postgame, they can speak to Mai at the Heights Camp (Obsidian Fieldlands) to start the chain of side quests for massive mass outbreaks. The first massive mass outbreak just happens to consist of Hisuian Zorua. They'll spawn on Ramanas Island in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

To transfer Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark, do the following:

  1. (Legends: Arceus) Place Hisuian Zorua in a Pasture. Save, then exit the game.
  2. Open Pokemon HOME on the home menu, and choose Legends: Arceus.
  3. Move Hisuian Zorua from the Pasture to the Basic Box. Save and exit.
  4. While still in HOME, open Scarlet/Violet.
  5. Transfer Hisuian Zorua from the Basic Box to a PC Box in Scarlet/Violet. Save and exit to complete the transfer.

How to Evolve Hisuian Zorua into Hisuian Zoroark

pokemon legends arceus hisuian zorua

Like the regular/Dark-type Zorua, Hisuian Zorua evolves into Hisuian Zoroua when it reaches level 30. Since Hisuian Zorua doesn't need to physically be in Hisui to evolve, players can transfer it to Scarlet/Violet and evolve it there.

It isn't difficult to grind EXP in Scarlet/Violet, but players may find it quicker to level up Zorua by having it Auto-Battle against Pokemon that are weak to Ghost-types. Leveling up Pokemon to evolve via Auto-Battle will not trigger an evolution. For example, if Zorua reaches level 30 during Auto-Battle, players will need to level it up one more time in battle, in picnics, or giving it an Exp. Candy/Rare Candy.

Players can also get Hisuian Zoroark by transferring one from Legends: Arceus. Hisuian Zoroark appears in massive mass outbreaks, particularly in the Alabaster Icelands.

Another way trainers could have received a Hisuian Zoroark was through a code they would get for preordering the Scarlet/Violet expansion pass/DLC before October 31, 2023. This Hisuian Zoroark would have the move Happy Hour, which doubles the prize money won at the end of battles.

How to Get More Hisuian Zorua (Can You Breed Hisuian Zorua?)

pokemon scarlet and violet koraidon and pokemon egg

Zorua Eggs that hatch in Scarlet/Violet will always be the Dark-type Zorua. If players want to breed more Hisuian Zorua, they'll need to have their Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark hold an Everstonebefore setting up a picnic. This will guarantee the Egg will hatch into a Hisuian Zorua. It will also have the same Nature as the parent Hisuian Zoroark.

Everstones can be bought from Delibird Presents for 3000 .

The Zorua-line is compatible with a Zorua/Zoroark of the opposite gender, Ditto, or any Pokemon that shares its Egg Group (Field). If breeding with a Pokemon of the same Egg Group, Hisuian Zoroark needs to be female (and holding the Everstone). When breeding two different yet compatible Pokemon, the Egg will hatch into the same species as the mother.

Is Hisuian Zoroark Better than Regular Zoroark?

Both Zoroarks have the same base stat spread total, but the stats themselves are different. In short, Hisuian Zoroark is a little faster and the better special attacker compared to regular Zoroark. On the other hand, regular Zoroark has slightly-better Attack and HP. One advantage Hisuian Zoroark has over regular Zoroark is fewer type weaknesses and cannot be injured by Normal or Fighting-type moves.

Hisuian Zoroark can be used as either a physical attacker or a special attacker. Its poor Defense and Special Defense makes it pretty much useless as a tank, but high Speed, Special Attack, and Attack means that Hisuian Zoroark can be a great sweeper with the right training.

As far as Natures are concerned, players will want something that boosts Hisuian Zoroark's Speed. It can also have a Nature with a boon in Special Attack or Attack, but players should avoid Speed-lowering Natures (ex: Brave +Attk, -Spd).

Timid Nature is preferred thanks to its Speed increase growth and lowered Attack. Since Hisuian Zoroark works better as a special attacker, it's recommended to take a bane in Attack over Special Attack stat.

Here are some recommended moves for Hisuian Zoroark's moveset:

  • Bitter Malice: It seems to have lost some of its secondary effects in Gen 9, as it no longer boosts any of Zoroark's stats if Zoroark has a status ailment. However, it will lower the target Pokemon's Attack when it hits. Although arguably nerfed compared to Bitter Malice in Legends: Arceus, it's still a decent Ghost-type move for Hisuian Zoroark.
  • Shadow Ball: This is another Ghost-type move that works well for Hisuian Zoroark. It does 5 more damage than Bitter Malice, and has a slight chance of lowering the target's Special Defense.
  • Nasty Plot: A status move that is a Must for those running a special attacker Hisuian Zoroark. This sharply raises the user's special attack stat in battle.
  • Focus Blast: While the 5PP and 70% accuracy is a bit discouraging, Focus Blast is a powerful Fighting-type special move that deals 120 damage. Since Hisuian Zoroark's only type weakness is Dark-type, it will want a Fighting-type move to give it some coverage. Another alternative to this is the physical move Brick Break, but this is less recommended - especially for special attacker Zoroarks.
  • U-Turn: A Bug-type move that causes Zoroark to switch out after damaging the opponent. With Zoroark's amazing Speed, it's one of the better Pokemon to run a moveset with U-Turn. This also deals super effective damage to most Grass, Psychic, and Dark-type Pokemon.
