In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, several pseudo-legendaries from previous games have made their return and are waiting to be caught by players. Trainers aiming to battle competitively may want to be on the lookout for pseudo-legendary Pokemon.

A fan-made category, pseudo-legendaries are powerful Pokemon with a base stat total 600 that aren't classified as Legendary Pokemon. One example is Goodra, the final evolution of Dragon-type Goomy. This slug dragon family has made its return in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet along with several pseudo-legendary Pokemon lines, but players may be wondering what makes the Goomy-line so special.

However, just because they have a regional variant, does this make them better than their Kalos counterparts? Where To Find Goomy

Goomy can be caught right after trainers get Koraidon/Miraidon, but it's best to look for it after starting the Treasure Hunt. Here's where to find Goomy in Scarlet/Violet:

How To Evolve Goomy & Sliggoo Into Goodra (How to Get Sliggoo & Goodra)

Goomy will evolve into Sliggoo when it reaches level 40.

Once trainers have Sliggoo, it will evolve into Goodra at level 50, but only if it's raining. There isn't a way to guarantee weather changes in Scarlet/Violet, so it's just a matter of waiting in-game for the weather to change. If players have the Teal Mask DLC, they can travel back and forth between Paldea and Kitakami and evolve Sliggoo in whichever region it's raining.

Another way to get Sliggoo and Goodra is by transferring from other Pokemon games such as Legends: Arceus, Pokemon GO, or Pokemon Shield. Trading with other players is also another method. As for those that want a Sliggoo or Goodra matching their Trainer ID, they can catch them at the following locations:

• Timeless Woods (Sliggoo)
• 4-star Tera Raids in Paldea (Sliggoo)
• 5/6-star Tera Raids in Paldea (Goodra)

How to Evolve Goomy into Hisuian Sliggoo & Hisuian Goodra in Scarlet/Violet

If Goomy is evolved in Hisui/Legends: Arceus, it will evolve into Hisuian Sliggoo instead. Keep in mind that getting Hisuian Sliggoo means transferring Goomy to Legends: Arceus via Pokemon HOME. Those that want the Hisuian Sliggoo/Goodra must evolve their Goomy or catch Hisuian Sliggoo or Hisuian Goodra in Legends: Arceus. The best place to look is at Holm of Trials or Ancient Quarry in the Crimson Mirelands.

If trainers want to evolve their own Goomy into Hisuian Sliggoo, they should do the following:

1. Catch Goomy, and place it in a PC Box. Then, save and exit.
2. Close out of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and open Pokemon HOME on the Switch.
3. In HOME, open Scarlet/Violet and move Goomy from the PC Box to the Basic Box. Save and exit.
4. While still in HOME, open Legends: Arceus to move Goomy from the Basic Box to a Pasture. Save and exit.
5. Close out of HOME and open Legends: Arceus. Take Goomy out of the Pasture, and evolve it into Hisuian Sliggoo/Goodra.
6. Return the newly-evolved Sliggoo/Goodra to a Pasture, then go back into HOME to move it back to Scarlet/Violet.

If players are simply catching/evolving Hisuian Sliggoo and Hisuin Goodra, then they'll only need to deposit it in a Pasture, then complete the move to Scarlet/Violet using Pokemon HOME.

Which Goodra is Better? (Is Hisuian Goodra Good?)

Both Goodras are very bulky with a base Special Defense at 150. What separates Hisuian Goodra from regular Goodra is its typing, learnset, and one of their Abilities. Unlike the Kalos Goodra, Hisuian Goodra is a Steel/Dragon-type Pokemon.

Here's what trainers are looking at for Goodra:

There's no difference in Attack, Special Attack, or Special Defense when comparing Dragon-type Goodra and Steel/Dragon-type Goodra. Unfortunately for the slug dragons, their Speed isn't that great, with Hisuian Goodra being even slower than regular Goodra. On the plus side, Hisuian Goodra's bulky Defense and Special Defense means it can take a few hits in battle. It has a low base HP, however, so players will want to keep this in mind if they intend to use Goodra as a tank.

Trainers that use Hisuian Goodra in battle will want a Nature that increases its Defense (or Special Defense). Those using regular Goodra can get away with a Nature that increases its Speed.

The Goodras' moveset consists of physical and special moves, and with its base stats for Attack and Special Attack being 100 and 110 respectively, it's better to use it as a special attacker. Hisuian Goodra can learn coverage moves with TMs (such as Sludge Bomb), and Goodra can learn Water-type Scald, whereas Hisuian Goodra cannot.

Hisuian Goodra has twice as many type-resistances than regular Goodra with a total of nine. Its Steel-typing also means it can shrug off the Fairy/Ice/Dragon-type weakness that most Dragon-type succumb to in exchange for a weakness to Ground and Fighting-type moves. It also has an immunity to Poison-type moves, barring the opponent doesn't have an Ability like Corrosion, which makes it susceptible to being poisoned.

Therefore, if players are concerned about their Pokemon having type weaknesses, then they may want to go with Hisuian Goodra.

• Sap Sipper gives Goodra an immunity to Grass-type moves, and will have its Attack raised by one stage in-battle. Since both Goodras resist Grass-type moves, this ability might be more useful on another Type instead.
• Shell Armor will protect Hisuian Goodra from critical hits. Since Hisuian Goodra's best strengths are its Defense and Special Defense, this is a good Ability for it to have. On the other hand, Goodra has Hydration, which will cure its status conditions at the end of every turn as long as it's raining.
• Finally, their Hidden Ability, Gooey, will lower the opponent's Speed by one stage if it makes physical contact with Goodra.
