Ducklett and its evolution, Swanna, are Water/Flying-type Pokemon from the Unova Region. Given the various Water/Flying-tpe Pokemon that can be caught in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, some trainers may think the Ducklett-line was an odd choice for a returning Pokemon in Kitakami, the setting of The Teal Mask DLC.
Even if Scarlet/Violet players never use Ducklett or Swanna in battle, they're going to need to catch both in order to complete the Kitakami Pokedex. For those who do want to use them as their Water or Flying-type, they should consider the pros and cons of Ducklett and Swanna before making room in their party.

Where to Find Ducklett
Ducklett can be found at Fellhorn Gorge and Mossfell Confluence. They'll be around level 34 before the postgame, and around level 60 after "The Way Home" main quest. They can also be found in 1-star Tera Raids.
Some Ducklett will be swimming, so trainers are advised to unlock Koraidon/Miraidon's swim ability beforehand. Those that are in the water are easier to catch with Dive Balls. Otherwise, Net Balls will also work thanks to Ducklett's Water-typing.
How to Evolve Ducklett (How to Get Swanna)
Ducklett evolves into Swanna at level 35. The Ducklett caught in Kitakami before the completion of "The Way Home" will be lower than their evolve level. Trainers can use it in battle (or Auto-Battle) to grind EXP, or they can resort to feeding it Exp. Candy M. Duckletts caught in the postgame just need to level up one more time to evolve.
Although Swanna's Pokedex entry says it can't be found in Kitakami, there are Fixed Spawn locations for Swanna in Fellhorn Gorge. One may be seen swimming in the water, while another is on the cliffs between Kitakami Hall and Fellhorn Gorge. There's also an Ice-type Terastallized Swanna in the waters at the Kitakami Wilds, near the Gracious Stones landmark. Otherwise, trainers will be able to catch Swanna in 4-star Tera Raids. These raids will unlock after collecting 7 gym badges.
If trainers are trying to catch the Fixed Spawn Swannas, they'll want to use Dive Balls or Net Balls. Swanna's catch rate is much lower than Ducklett's, and it's likely to break out of a Quick Ball, forcing trainers to battle it. Whittle down its HP with moves that don't target its type weaknesses. AvoidElectric-type moves, as Swanna has a x4 weakness to them and will be KO'd instantly.
If players are fighting the Terastallized Swanna in the Kitakami Wilds , they'll want to hit it hard with a Fire, Fighitng, or Steel-type move. Once its Tera Form breaks, Swanna can be caught, and at that point, its HP will be in the red or orange.

Is Swanna Worth Using?
Swanna's Water/Flying-typing has some advantages and disadvantages - just as every other dual type Pokemon. Other Water/Flying-types in Scarlet/Violet include Gyarados, Wingull, Pelipper, and Cramorant (Scarlet only). Swanna's base stats are average with its Speed being its best strength. On the other hand, none of its base stats break 100, whereas Pokemon like Pelipper and Gyarados do break 100 with their Defense and Attack respectively.

Although Swanna's Attack and Special Attack base stat are the same, all but two of its attacking moves in its learnset are special moves. This means it's better to run a special attacker Swanna rather than a physical attacker. While its TM learnset are mostly Water, Flying, and Normal-type moves, it can also learn attacks that give it some coverage.
- Ice Beam or Icy Wind is generally recommended for coverage against Grass-types. It can also give Swanna an advantage over Dragon-type Pokemon. However, Swanna's Flying-type means it will take normal damage rather than x2 damage from Grass-type attacks.
- Air Slash or Hurricane are good Flying-type moves, and Swanna has both in its learnset. Both have 95% and 70% Accuracy respectively, with Air Slash having a power of 75 and Hurricane having 110.
- Unfortunately, Swanna can't learn Scald in Scarlet/Violet, but it can learn Surf, which is another alternative for a Water-type move in its moveset.
- Finally, Defog is a good status move for Swanna. This will lower the target's evasion by one stage as well as clear away the effects of barrier-moves, such as Reflect and Light Screen. Note: This won't clear away barriers created by Tera Raid Pokemon.
