During the Pokemon Presents in August 2023, it was announced that Mewtwo would be available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Tera Raid Battles. These raids would be 7-Stars, and run from August 31 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET / 1 AM BST (September 1) to September 17 at 16:59 PT / 19:59 ET / 12:59 AM BST (September 18).
These Tera Raids will definitely be a cool event, as players will be able to catch Mewtwo once defeating it. As of the time of writing, Mewtwo isn't available in the game. This guide will go over the best counters to beat the 7-star Mewtwo Tera Raid boss.
How To Start the Mewtwo Tera Raid
As many players already know, Crystals are the way that Trainers can begin a Tera Raid Battle, and the same applies here. In order to find and begin a Tera Raid with Mewtwo, players will need to look on the map for Black Crystals.
Best Counters Against Mewtwo Tera Raid Boss
Remember that these raids are 7-star ones, so a stronger Pokemon will be needed for the best outcome of the battle. It was confirmed that Mewtwo would be a Psychic Tera-Type, which would cause it to retain its weaknesses to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type Pokemon attacks.
An ongoing trend with Mewtwo is to go head-to-head with Mew. This started back in Generation I and it has carried over to be the same here. Using a Mew against Mewtwo is actually a good counter. Make sure the stats of Mew are high and has some good moves before the battle.
Another good counter is Skeledirge. While not everyone might have Fuecoco, as it is one of the starter Pokemon, players can get one from their friends by breeding it or trading online. Skeledirge is a good counter for Mewtwo, as its move Hex has the power of 130. It also has the powerful Ghost-type move Shadowball. It can also use Sing to put its opponent to sleep and keep Mewtwo from attacking for a turn, maybe more. This Pokemon has some great abilities and attacks that can really help take Mewtwo down for the count.
