Pokemon Scarlet and Violet welcomed players to the region of Paldea, introducing a variety of new Pokemon and bringing back many longtime favorites in this new generation of games. In Scarlet and Violet, the first Generation 9 titles, a significant number of both Pokemon and moves which they can learn are unfortunately absent. However, many of the series' incredible assortment of 900+ moves are available in Scarlet and Violet, including the powerful healing move Roost.

In previous titles in Game Freak's franchise, Roost could be taught via a Technical Machine (TM) to any Pokemon who were capable of learning the move. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, however, there is no TM that teaches Roost. Instead, Roost can be learned only by specific Pokemon which can either learn the move upon reaching certain levels, or can learn the ability as an Egg move. There are an additional two Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet who will know Roost by default. Roost can be extremely beneficial in executing certain strategies to defeat Pokemon in challenging Tera Raid encounters. Therefore, it is important to discover which Pokemon can learn Roost along with how they can obtain this move.

Pokemon Who Already Know Roost

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Dragonite

There are only two Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet who know Roost as one of their base moves, meaning they will have learned this move already when they are encountered and captured.

Pokemon Which Learn Roost Via Leveling Up

pokemon-scarlet-and-violet-dudunsparce

There are twenty Pokemon that are available in Scarlet and Violet which will learn Roost upon reaching certain levels. It's important to note that the Legendary Birds (Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos) can be transferred from Pokemon Home to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet but cannot be caught in the Generation 9 game.

Eligible Pokemon obtained via trading are able to learn Roost either by leveling up, remembering the move, or can learn Roost though use of a Mirror Herb if it is an Egg Move for the species. Therefore, utilizing the Union Circle is a valid method of obtaining Pokemon which can learn Roost in Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Which Learn Roost As An Egg Move

Delibird-Presents storefront

Egg moves are special moves that Pokemon can learn through breeding or, in Scarlet and Violet, can be passed on to a Pokemon by use of a Mirror Herb. Egg moves can be transferred to a Pokemon via breeding two Pokemon in the same Egg Group, with one of the parents of any gender knowing the Egg move the player wishes to pass on to their offspring.

In Generation 9, it's now easier than ever to pass on Egg moves to the Pokemon which can learn them, as it doesn't even have to involve breeding. Instead, Pokemon capable of learning an Egg move can do so through use of a new item, Mirror Herb, and Scarlet and Violet's Picnic feature.

Egg moves can be learned by any evolution of an eligible species. Unevolved Pokemon can learn an Egg move via breeding or by using Mirror Herb, while the evolved forms can learn an Egg move by using the Mirror Herb method.
