There are two ways to get a Munchlax while exploring the new Kitakami region in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The first way is to simply encounter one in the wild and catch it with a Poke Ball. The map above shows Munchlax's locations, including Timeless Woods, Kitakami Wilds, and Wistful Fields.

The second way to get a Munchlax is to check out the Ogre Oustin' minigame at one of the stalls at Kitakami Hall, northeast of Mossui Town. By completing all ten rounds of the game's Hard Mode, players will get a Shiny Munchlax as a bonus gift. The Pokemon will be level 1 and know two moves: Lick and Tackle.

In order for Munchlax to evolve to its second and final form, Snorlax, players will need to spend a lot of time with the Pokemon. That's because Munchlax is one of the few Pokemon out there that can only evolve once its Happiness/Friendship reaches a particular level.

When the Pokemon is at peak happiness, it will evolve once it gains one level. Here are some helpful pointers for players so they can keep their Munchlax nice and friendly:

  • Don't let Munchlax faint in battles.
  • Use them in battles.
  • Raise its level.
  • Use them for auto-battling.
  • Give it a Soothe Bell to hold.
  • Bring them to Picnics and feed them sandwiches.

If players ever want to check the friendship level of a specific Pokemon , they can head to Cascarrafa in the Paldea region and speak with a woman east of the southwestern Pokemon Center. She'll let players pick a Pokemon and will let them know how the Pokemon feels about the trainer.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch.
