The roster of Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet continues to grow with the Mightiest Mark Greninja Tera Raid event. With the Pokemon available to be captured by those who defeat it, players also have access to the full Greninja line, including Froakie and Frogadier.

The Mightiest Mark Greninja Tera Raid event has proven to be another interesting challenge for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players. Though standard Tera Raid battles can be fun and challenging, Game Freak has done a good job of differentiating its special seven-star Tera Raid bosses from the rest of the game. These Pokemon have unique movesets that make them a stiff test even for a coordinated, prepared party.

The reward is worthy of the challenge, though. After beating the Mightiest Mark Greninja, players can capture it, breed it, and get themselves the full evolutionary line.

Updated on January 2, 2024 by Renri Seong: Pokemon Scarlet & Violetwraps up its expansion pass with part 2 of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, the Indigo Disk. Part 1, the Teal Mask, brought 200 Pokemon to Scarlet/Violet, while Part 2 included over 240. Among those included in Indigo Disk was the Water-type starter of the Kalos region, Froakie. Before Indigo Disk, you could transfer Froakie and its evolutions via Pokemon HOME, but there was no way to catch it in the wild. Now, you can find a wild Froakie in a specific biome of Blueberry Academy's Terarium. However, getting Froakie to appear in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet requires a crucial step.

Where to Find Froakie in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Coastal Biome in Terarium (3000BP)

pokemon scarlet violet indigo disk froakie location

Froakie appears in the Coastal Biome of Terarium after you've contributed 3000BP to the Terarium Club in the League Club room. After contributing BP, Froakie can be found roaming the shores of the island with the Coastal Plaza.

BPs, or Blueberry Points, are a currency used at Blueberry Academy. You earn them from completing Blueberry Quests (BBQs). These will unlock after you've completed your first class in Terarium at the Coastal Biome. You will be given three BBQs at a time, and when you've completed enough, you'll unlock more difficult BBQs.

To get to the League Club, you will need to meet up with Carmine at the Central Plaza. She will contact you after you complete your first class, but if you haven't completed "The Way Home" main quest, she will not reach out to you. Thus, you must be in the postgame if you want to catch Froakie.

After defeating Carmine, you will be recruited into the League Club where you can use their computer to contribute BP. You will want to contribute to the Coastal Biome. Aside from Froakie, you will also unlock other starters in the biome such as Bulbasaur and Mudkip.

If you managed to defeat the Unrivaled Greninja in the 7-star Tera Raid back in January 27-29, 2023, you can always breed it to get Froakie Eggs.

How to Trade & Transfer Froakie

pokemon home transfer froakie to pokemon scarlet

If 3000BP is too tedious, you can always transfer or trade to get Froakie and its evolutions. You'll need a Nintendo Online Membeship Subscription if you plan to trade for it. Otherwise, you'll need to link your Nintendo Account to Pokemon HOME if you want to transfer Froakie. Furthermore, Froakie can only be transferred from games where it can be caught.

Here's how to trade for Froakie:

  1. In Scarlet/Violet, open the menu with X-button, then tap the L-button to connect to the internet.
  2. Access Poke Portal, and select Union Circle. You can either form or join a group.
  3. Once you've set out with your group, you can go back into Poke Portal and choose Link Trade.
  4. Set Code (or enter the Code your friend gave you), then enter it and press (+).
  5. Select a Pokemon to trade for Froakie.

If you don't have a Nintendo Online Membership, you can transfer Froakie by using Pokemon HOME. Since you can't catch Froakie in Pokemon Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Let's go, Pikachu!/Eevee!, or Legends: Arceus, you will need Pokemon GO.

Alternatively, if you caught a Froakie in the DS games and transferred one to HOME via Pokemon Bank , you can always send one of those Froakies to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet .

Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Catch Froakie in the wild in Pokemon GO. As a Water-type, it tends to spawn more often if it's raining. You can either wait in real time for it to rain, or you can set a Rain Lure Module on a Poke Stop.
  2. In Pokemon GO, access the Settings and choose Connected Devices and Services. Choose Pokemon HOME.
  3. Select Transfer Pokemon, and select Froakie.
  4. Once Froakie has been transferred, go into Pokemon HOME on the Switch, and select the Pokemon GO icon in the main menu. If Froakie has been transferred, there will be a red notification near the GO icon.
  5. While still in Pokemon HOME, open Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, and move Froakie from the Basic Box to a PC Box. Save changes and exit.

How to Evolve Froakie and Frogadier into Greninja

What Level Does Froakie Evolve?

catching greninja pokemon scarlet violet

Froakie evolves into Frogadier at level 16, and Frogadier evolves into Greninja at level 36. If you caught a wild Froakie in Terarium, then you will only need to level up Froakie once to evolve into Frogadier, then one more time to get Greninja. This is due to most of Terarium Pokemon's levels being mid-50s to mid-60s.

When it evolves into Greninja, it will want to learn the move Water Shuriken. This is a priority and special move, meaning that it will always go first (in most circumstances), and its power is calculated by Greninja's Special Attack instead of its Attack. Water Shuriken hits from 2-5 times.
