Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet has been announced and The Pokemon Company has released the names of the new starter Pokemon recently and fans are excited. So excited in fact that they can't seem to figure out what type of food the little fire crocodile is meant to look like.

Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet were announced during Pokemon Presents on February 27th and has released the names and types of its three starter Pokemon. These starters include the Grass-type Sprigatito, Fire-type Fuecoco, and Water-type Quaxly. Not much else is known about this game yet other than that it's going to have a more open-world concept but the anticipation and fan theories are plenty.

The Pokemon subreddit has been undecided on what food the fire crocodile Fuecoco looks like with two posts standing out. Reddit user ainhoawind suggests in a post that Fuecoco looks like a pimiento de piquillo or Spanish stuffed red peppers. Another Reddit user Brawght posted a screenshot of a tweet from Twitter user JuancitoMarVel that acknowledges the name Fuecoco means "fire crocodile" but argues that it looks like a cocoa bean fruit. Along with those, others say that it looks the most like an apple due to the little yellow things on its head that look similar to an apple's stem and its eyes look like apple seeds to some.

Even though the Pokemon Presents presentation had been under-marketed due to the conflict in Ukraine, it still made waves of headlines when it released the information it had for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The design that was released for Fuecoco had fans speculating for good reason. Pokemon is known for having some of the most creative designs that sometimes actually embody food such as in the case of Vanillite in Gen 5 and Alcremie in Gen 8, so it's no surprise that fans have been speculating about this.

The fire starter is breaking some Pokemon tradition as an animal that is not part of the zodiac, being thought to represent a food item is a very interesting fan theory. The stuffed pepper theory does feel the most plausible, especially since it seems the setting for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet seems to be leaning towards a Latin nature, though Fuecoco does have very apple-like characteristics.

Starter designs are usually very thematic to the regions where Pokemon games are based and Fuecoco is no different. The big questions remain on whether the starter Pokemon is indeed based on a food item. Even if it is, once the evolutions for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's starter pokemon are revealed, things could become a bit more clear.
