The Nintendo Direct presented on June 21 started off with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's trailer for the upcoming DLC, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Split into two parts, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC looks promising for Pokemon fans. The trailers show off the two brand-new settings, Kitakami and Blueberry Academy, as well as brief looks at the new characters Carmine, Kieran, Cyrano, and Lacey. The trailer also reveals the models for upcoming unfamiliar Pokemon: Okidogi, Munikdori, Fezandipiti, Ogerpon, and Terapagos.

Although the trailer provides peeks at the new content, some players might be glad to see the various Pokemon that will be returning in The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Whether they're caught for collection or Pokemon battling, returning Pokemon are something for fans be looking forward too. The trailer shows off multiple Pokemon from the previous generations, but it's likely that not all returning Pokemon were included in the trailer. It seems that Game Freak will reveal more returning Pokemon in a future trailer, otherwise players will have to wait until Fall 2023 for the Teal Mask DLC and Winter 2023 for The Indigo Disk.

The Teal Mask DLC takes place in Kitakami, a land inspired by traditional Japan. Interestingly, most of the returning Pokemon revealed in the trailer are from Pokemon's first four regions: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, which are also all based on Japan. While venturing in Kitakami, players will be able to see some Pokemon that were absent in Pokemon Sword and Shield, including Sentret, Gligar, and Poochyena. Two Pokemon in the base game will appear as different regional variants: Oricorio - Sensu Style and original Wooper/Quagsire (differing from Paldean Wooper/Quagsire). Also, the iconic Snorlax will slack around once again. Statues of Hisuian Growlithe can be seen in one scene of the trailer, but it's unconfirmed if the Pokemon itself will appear.

  • Sentret/Furret
  • Gligar/Gliscor
  • Hoothoot/Noctowl
  • Aipom/Ambipom
  • Oricorio - Sensu Style
  • Poochyena/Mightyena

The Indigo Disk Returning Pokemon

The Indigo Disk, taking place at Blueberry Academy, may have one of the most intriguing settings ever in a Pokemon game. Underneath the academy's surface lies the Terarium, a huge park where trainers will be able to catch Pokemon and battle against other trainers. From the trailer, it seems as though there are four zones with their own biomes: a tropical zone, mountain zone, snowy zone, and plains/desert zone. Some of the powerful Pokemon that can be found in the Blueberry Academy's Terarium include Flygon, Reuniclus, and Golurk.

  • Exeggcute/Exeggutor/Alolan Exeggutor
  • Minccino/Cinccino
  • Golett/Golurk
  • Solosis/Duosion/Reuniclus
