  • Bloodmoon Ursaluna will be a powerful and impactful addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC, with the potential for significant implications in the series going forward.

The recent, reliable leak of Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should be the last word regarding one debate within the fandom. There are bound to be a lot of questions revolving around Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, especially with the DLC set to be released soon. However, alongside those questions will be answers, and at least one important answer is already in plain sight. There are still a few uncertain details that will need to be ironed out as the DLC's release approaches, but Ursaluna puts one key detail to rest.

The discovery of Ursaring's evolution Ursaluna in Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a big surprise, and it also introduced a seriously powerful new option for players. Ursaring was already a powerful physical attacker, and Ursaluna expanded all of its best traits. It was slightly stronger and significantly bulkier, making it a dangerous fighter that was difficult to take down. Plus its new Ground typing gave it access to a brutally powerful Earthquake, at least when it wasn't using the terrifying Headlong Rush. Pokemon Legends: Arceus introduced a decent variety of new evolutions. However, while many were powerful, Ursaluna is easily among the scariest of the bunch.

It turns out that an unexpected upgrade for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is coming in the form of Bloodmoon Ursaluna, per recent leaks. Bloodmoon Ursaluna has the same intimidating size as the original, but a few clear differences set it apart. With a new design over its face that looks like mud in the form of a cracked mask, it looks like Ursaluna reimagined in the form of a horror movie. Since details are so scarce, it's not clear if Bloodmoon Ursaluna will have a different type or different stats compared to the normal form. However, its striking appearance is enough to provoke discussion regarding its origins.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna proves one thing about Pokemon's timeline that Ursaluna's addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet did not. When Hisuian forms first became available in Scarlet and Violet via Pokemon HOME, it could be passed off as a non-canon bonus feature. However, with a new form of the previously Hisui-exclusive Ursaluna coming out in Scarlet and Violet's DLC, it's hard to not see that as a confirmation of Hisuian Pokemon being real in the mainline Pokemon series. As a result, that also points to Pokemon Legends: Arceus being part of the main series' timeline, rather than a spin-off.

Now that Bloodmoon Ursaluna is coming to the game, not only does it establish an even more solid connection between Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Arceus, but it also opens the door for more Hisuan Pokemon to appear in the future. After all, not only does Bloodmoon Ursaluna prove that the Pokemon seen in Legends: Arceus are canon, but it also implies that Hisuian Pokemon aren't extinct either. Ursaluna showing up in a main series game means that other Pokemon like Sneasler and Enamorus could do the same in the future. For that reason, Bloodmoon Ursaluna could be one of the most important additions in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC.

It seems pretty clear that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is officially a part of the main series with Bloodmoon Ursaluna making its debut, though there have been plenty of fan debates since its release. While not the only new Pokemon in The Teal Mask DLC, Bloodmoon Ursaluna will probably be the one with the most impact. Not only is it an incredibly powerful Pokemon, but it also presents a lot of new opportunities for the series going forward. Hisuian Pokemon and forms may not have to be restricted to Legends: Arceus anymore. With Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it's clear that Pokemon Legends: Arceus and its Pokemon are canon after all.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
