Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are likely the most revolutionary games in the franchise so far, even more so than the acclaimed Pokemon Legends: Arceus, considering they broke multiple traditions in an attempt to change the core formula of the series. A few issues still remain and are likely to stay, such as the reduced number of critters in the regional Pokedex, something that is the byproduct of a rather short development cycle and the ever-increasing number of new Pokemon. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC was recently leaked in terms of what creatures will appear and what they do in battle, and with over 400 Pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex there are a handful that players can use to help catch them all.

While there are not many new Pokemon in The Teal Mask DLC, it also boasts a bunch of returning critters, bringing the total of pocket monsters coming with the expansion to 107 - 99 returning and 8 new, according to the leaks. Some of these, players will want to catch and train, others they'll want to simply knock out or have effective creatures to use against, but there's only a maximum of six Pokemon trainers can have at a given time in their team.

Given that players will likely have to deal with the Loyal Three in the DLC, be it to capture them or even via regular battle if fellow trainers happen to have them on their team, it's important to have good ways to prevent them from wreaking havoc. Claydol would have been OP in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC for this specific scenario, as it is the only Ground/Psychic mon in the franchise, and its types are both supereffective against Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. Since Baltoy and Claydol are not in Gen 9, players will have to make do with other creatures.

A good way to deal with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti would be to bring a Clodsire to the lands of Kitakami, as it is the only species in Gen 9 games to have the Ground/Poison type combo. This allows Clodsire to hit the Loyal Three with supereffective STAB damage from Ground moves, all while preventing it from being poisoned by the trio's Ability called Toxic Chain. According to current information, Toxic Chain makes the user capable of poisoning its targets with any moves used, which Clodsire's Poison type would prevent.

Another good option for players to bring along would be Palossand, a Ground/Ghost Pokemon that would be supereffective against the trio while also being a solid wall capable of self-healing for any other encounters in the DLC. Similarly, Amoonguss or even the new Paradox Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet Brute Bonnet, are very good choices for a team in The Teal Mask, as they are able to deal damage as well as sleep opponents, and possibly heal themselves during the process. A good damage dealer or two would also be fantastic additions to a team, and any can work, considering it's virtually impossible to cover for all the types in the game.

Lastly, players should consider bringing a catch-them-all Pokemon, and the best currently around is none other than Gallade. This critter can learn False Swipe, Hypnosis, Taunt, and Trick, and players can equip it with the Ring Target held item. This set allows Gallade to theoretically hit any Pokemon with False Swipe, including Ghost-types, while also having options to sleep them or prevent non-attack moves from being used. Overall, the options are many, but Pokemon like Clodsire, Palossand, Amoonguss, Gallade, and a couple of damage dealers would be the most ideal team to have in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
