As the Mascot for The Teal Mask in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Ogerpon is a Gen 9 Legendary that trainers will automatically catch at the end of the part 1 DLC. Like most Legendary Pokemon, Ogerpon has over-average base stats and can be made into a powerful battler with the right moveset.
Constructing a moveset for any Pokemon in Scarlet/Violet is the same as any other mainline Pokemon game. Players will want to level up Ogerpon so that it can learn more moves, but they can also use TMs. Ogerpon can also gain an additional Typing depending on the Mask it's made to hold, making it rather versatile for its trainers.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Get Conkeldurr
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trainers will need to catch and evolve the Timburr-line in order to complete the Pokedex in the Teal Mask DLC.
How to Get Ogerpon
Players that want to get Ogerpon as soon as possible should make progress in The Teal Mask story. Eventually, they'll need to battle against Ogerpon four times in a row against each of her forms. It's a guaranteed catch, so the biggest challenge will be defeating Ogerpon. If trainers haven't completed "The Way Home" main quest, Ogerpon will be level 20. If they have, then she will be level 70 instead.
After this, trainers will need to put Ogerpon in their party before battling Carmine (unless they released or transferred Ogerpon) to formally complete The Teal Mask. However, players can also just take Ogerpon and start training her for battle.
Understanding Ogerpon (Stats, Strengths, Weaknesses, etc.)
Ogerpon's a speedy attacker with her Attack and Speed stats being the highest, while her Special Attack is the lowest. Her signature move, Ivy Cudgel, is a Grass-type physical move that should always be in her moveset. Depending on the Mask she is wearing, Ivy Cudgel's typing will change. Teal Mask/regular Ogerpon's Ivy Cudgel attack is Grass, Hearthflame is Fire, Wellspring is Water, and Cornerstone is Rock.
When Ogerpon holds one of the three Masks, she gains a different Ability and a second Typing. For example, wearing the Hearthflame Mask will turn her into Grass/Fire-type with the Moldbreaker Ability. The Masks will not get rid of Ogerpon's primary typing (Grass), so keep in mind that she may have the same weaknesses that she has as Teal Mask/regular Ogerpon.
It's important to remember that a Mask can add more type advantages for Ogerpon at the cost of giving her more weaknesses. If Ogerpon wears the Cornerstone Mask to become Grass/Rock-type, she'll have a weakness to Steel-type moves, which she wouldn't have if her only typing was Grass. Taking time to understand each of Ogerpon's forms will give her trainers the advantage they need in battle.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Best Moves for Fezandipiti
Here's what Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trainers will want to know about the Poison/Fairy-type Fezandipiti in The Teal Mask.
Best Moves & Best Nature for Ogerpon
With Attack and Speed being her best stats, Ogerpon works best with an Adamant Nature (+Attk, - Sp.Attk) or a Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Attk). Natures that decrease her Attack growth or favor her Special Attack are generally not recommended. If trainers need to change her Nature, they can buy Nature Mints from Chansey Supply once they have seven Gym Badges. Additionally, a Timid or Adamant Mint can be picked up off the ground in Paldea, but this is not guaranteed.
As for moves, Ogerpon will do better with physical attacks than she would with special attacks. Although she's primarily a Grass-type Pokemon, she'll can learn/remember Throat Chop (Dark-type) and three different Fighting-type moves. Otherwise, Ogerpon's learnset consists mostly of Grass-type and Normal-type moves. Thus, trainers should consider using TMs to balance out Ogerpon's potential in battle.
Although Ogerpon's typing is changed by her Mask, she cannot learn Water, FIre, or Rock-type attacking moves via TM . However, she can learn Sunny Day (Fire-type), Rain Dance (Water-type), and Sandstorm (Rock-type). Because of this, it may be better to use Ogerpon primarily as a Grass-type Pokemon than a Fire/Water/Rock-type.
Here are some suggestions for movesets with Ogerpon:
Adamant Nature (+Attk, -Sp.Attk) | |||
---|---|---|---|
Move | Power | Accuracy | PP |
Ivy Cudgel | 100 | 100% | 10 |
Play Rough | 90 | 95% | 10 |
Swords Dance | N/A | N/A | 20 |
65 | 100% | 20 |
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Attk) | |||
---|---|---|---|
Move | Power | Accuracy | PP |
Ivy Cudgel | 100 | 100% | 10 |
Zen Headbutt | 80 | 90% | 15 |
Throat Chop | 80 | 100% | 15 |
U-turn | 70 | 100% | 20 |
Trainers can also mix-and-match the moves listed above to construct their own unique moveset.
- Ivy Cudgel should always be in Ogerpon's moveset as her Grass-type/STAB move. It's easily her best attack and the only one that changes its typing depending on her Mask.
- Swords Dance is a status move that will raise Ogerpon's attack by two stages in battle. If trainers are running an Adamant-nature Ogerpon, this is highly recommended. It can even be used in a Jolly Ogerpon's moveset.
- Low Sweep can be swapped out for another move, but this attack lowers the opponent's Speed by one stage if it manages to hit. With an accuracy of 100% and a PP of 20, it's not a bad move to have - especially for Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon.
- Play Rough or Zen Headbutt are there to give Ogerpon some type coverage. Play Rough is good against most Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-type Pokemon; Zen Headbutt is good against Poison and Fighting-type. Play Rough gives Cornerstone Ogerpon coverage, and Zen Headbutt gives her coverage for her Grass-typing. As such, Zen Headbutt may be preferred. It also has a chance of making the opponent flinch. However, Play Rough lowers an opponent's Attack, and it has 5% more accuracy than Zen Headbutt.
- U-Turn is super effective on Dark, Psychic, and Grass-type Pokemon. It also allows Ogerpon to be swapped out in battle, making it a good lasting impression for the opponent before it reatreats to its Poke Ball.
- Throat Chop is a decent Dark-type move, and it prevents the target from using sound-based attacks for two turns. An example of a sound-based move is Skeledirge's Torch Song. Since this move's full effect is situational, it can be swapped out for another Dark-type move or something else if trainers would prefer. If going for another Grass-type move, then Horn Leech is recommended.

Baculine is a Water-type Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet with multiple forms and a somewhat dark evolution method.
Which Ogerpon Form is The Best?
As mentioned, Ogerpon may gain a second typing from the Masks, but its inability to learn Fire/Water/Rock-type moves via leveling up or TMs puts it at a slight disadvantage. Like Oricorio, it's better to use Ogerpon for its primary typing rather than her (potential) secondary typing. However, trainers can give her the Hearthstone Mask to negate her weakness to Ice-type attacks, or the Cornerstone Mask to rid her Poison and Flying-type weaknesses. The Wellspring Mask gives Ogerpon the useful Water Absorb ability, which is something to consider.
When Terastallized, Ogerpon's typing matches the Mask she's wearing. Her Ability becomes Embody Aspect, which does the following:
- Teal Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Speed.
- Hearthflame Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Attack.
- Wellspring Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Special Defense.
- Cornerstone Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Defense.
Because of this, an Adamant Ogerpon may be better suited for wearing the Hearthflame Mask while a Jolly Ogerpon may work better with the Teal Mask. Ultimately, the decision comes down to Ogerpon's trainer and how they want to use her in battle.
