Great Tusk has one of the highest Attack stats and is one of the best physical walls in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. With the right build, Great Tusk can be a strong addition to many teams and can potentially lead players to the top of the ranked ladder.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players are introduced to Great Tusk as the Quaking Earth Titan. The beast stomps around the Asado Desert in Pokemon Scarlet, threatening foes with its 131 base Attack stat.

This isn’t a case of the boss version of the character being stronger than the real thing, though. Great Tusk can deal enormous damage to opponents in both singles and doubles formats with a proper build that covers its weaknesses.

Best Great Tusk Build for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ranked Singles

Pokemon Scarlet Violet-Quaking Earth Titan-Great Tusk in the Asado Desert

Great Tusk has a respectable 87 base Speed stat, and with full investment and a Choice Scarf, the Pokemon can beat many of the fastest Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. With this build, it stands as a particularly fearsome sweeper in ranked singles play:

  • Ability: Protosynthesis
  • Nature: Jolly
  • EVs: 252 Attack, 6 Sp. Defense, 252 Speed
  • Tera Type: Ground
  • Item: Choice Scarf
  • Moves: Headlong Rush, Close Combat, Ice Spinner, Knock Off

Headlong Rush and Close Combat both have 120 damage, with the drawback of lowering both defensive stats. That’s only a problem if opponents can actually hit Great Tusk since this build lets it beat many common opponents to the punch.

Ice Spinner and Knock Off are solid moves to have on hand, but other options can be used. Great Tusk can learn Play Rough, Stone Edge, Iron Head, Zen Headbutt, and Fire Fang. All these moves are worth considering for Great Tusk if a team needs coverage for those types.

Best Great Tusk Build for Ranked Doubles

Great Tusk’s stats are largely the same, whether in ranked doubles or singles, but its move set and item are different. Here’s the best catch-all build for the Pokemon:

  • Ability: Protosynthesis
  • Nature: Jolly
  • EVs: 252 Attack, 6 Sp. Defense, 252 Speed
  • Tera Type: Ground
  • Item: Assault Vest
  • Moves: Headlong Rush, Close Combat, Rock Slide, Ice Spinner

For doubles play, Great Tusk ought to trade a Choice Scarf for an Assault Vest. Assault Vest offers free bulk with the trade-off of being unable to use moves like Protect. That’s a bit troublesome, but being bulky against physical and special moves helps Great Tusk stay on the field.

Knock Off can be kept, but Rock Slide helps deal with popular flying-type support Pokemon like Talonflame, Kilowattrel, and Pelipper. Earthquake is worth considering over Headlong Rush, depending on the Pokemon around Great Tusk. It can deal huge damage to both opposing Pokemon, trading the defense drops for the potential of hitting allies.
