Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players likely already know that Flutter Mane is strong. With Paradox Pokemon now legal in ranked battles, players get to see just how strong Flutter Mane can be with a proper build.

Flutter Mane is among the hardest-hitting and fastest-moving Pokemon in all of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. It was one of the stars of the Mightiest Mark Charizard Tera Raid event in December 2022, and players can now use it to climb the ladder. Here’s the ideal build for Flutter Mane in ranked singles and doubles battles.

Best Flutter Mane Build for Ranked Singles

Flutter Mane is a very strong sweeper option in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s ranked singles pool. The Pokemon’s incredibly high Sp. Defense, Sp. Attack, and Speed stats make it very threatening in singles. Here’s a breakdown of the core of its build:

  • Nature: Modest or Timid
  • Ability: Protosynthesis
  • Tera Type: Fairy
  • EV Spread: 252 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Defense
  • Items: Booster Energy, Life Orb, or Choice Specs

Flutter Mane’s stats alone would make it a serious threat on its own, but it’s boosted even further with an incredibly large move pool. While fellow special sweeper Paradox Pokemon Iron Bundle has a limited arsenal of coverage moves, Flutter Mane gets a wide variety of attack options and some frustrating utility moves. Here are some of the best options:

  • Moon Blast
  • Dazzling Gleam
  • Shadow Ball
  • Psyshock
  • Mystical Fire
  • Energy Ball
  • Substitute
  • Calm Mind
  • Taunt
  • Encore

Singles battles allow Flutter Mane to force switches and set up to make it even more powerful. That said, the high stats and great coverage options also let Flutter Mane hit opponents hard, even without using Calm Mind.

Best Flutter Mane Build for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Ranked Doubles

Flutter Mane is an incredible threat in doubles battles as well. There are many creative strategies that can be used with the Pokemon, like pairing it with Torkoal to proc Protosynthesis without relying on Booster Energy or amplifying its offenses further with a Helping Hand user.

  • Nature: Timid
  • Ability: Protosynthesis
  • Tera Type: Fairy
  • EV Spread: 252 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Defense
  • Items: Booster Energy, Life Orb, Focus Sash, or Choice Specs

The stats, nature, and preferred Tera Type for Flutter Mane are largely the same between both singles and doubles. There are some notable differences in the moveset, however. Doubles doesn’t afford the room to set up with Substitute and Calm Mind, and Protect is a move that should be considered on every Pokemon. Icy Wind is also a viable move in doubles that hits hard with Flutter Mane’s high base Sp. Attack stat.

  • Moon Blast
  • Dazzling Gleam
  • Shadow Ball
  • Psyshock
  • Mystical Fire
  • Energy Ball
  • Icy Wind
  • Taunt
  • Encore
  • Protect

Players do need to be wary about Flutter Mane’s low base HP and Defense stats in double battles. Hard-hitting physical attackers with priority moves like Talonflame, Iron Valiant, and Scizor are all major threats to Flutter Mane. This can be mitigated to a degree by using a Focus Sash, but players will have to figure out if this works on their own team.
