Pokemon Scarlet and Violet share a wide range of Pokemon from past generations of the franchise. However, as the franchise moves into its ninth generation of games, players have once again been introduced to new editions to their Pokemon teams. With so many new creatures being added that are spread across a wide range of types, lovers of Dark-type Pokemon have been rewarded with plenty of new and exciting critters to capture in both Pokemon Scarlet or Violet. These are by far the best Dark-types that have been added to the Paldea region.

10 Lokix

Evolving from another new Pokemon called Nymble, this Bug-type grasshopper-inspired Pokemon transforms at level 24 to take on a more ominous look, as it gains the secondary Dark-type. While Nymble was known to flee from danger, once it has evolved and got its confidence, this small creature learned to stand tall.RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Find Tera Pokemon When it is threatened, Lokix will stand on its hind legs to enter showdown mode, where it will not leave the battle until the opponent or itself is finished. Unfortunately, it is still one of the weakest Dark-types to be added to the Paldea region. Still, this doesn't stop it from being interesting, especially as it is the first-ever Pokemon with this type combination.

9 Bombirdier

Air Titan Bombirdier from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also added another Dark/Flying-type to the mix. Players won't only have the chance to capture this new bird; they will also be forced to defeat a titan version of it during their adventure. Its darkness may not be noticeable in its design; however, according to its description, it likes to drop things from a height so that they make loud noises. Still, this may not be as dark and foreboding as it thinks.Players looking for Pokemon that have further evolutions should look elsewhere, as Bombirdier does not evolve. This isn't exactly a bad thing, as many players feel its base design is cool enough.

8 Mabosstif

The dog-like Pokemon continue even in the Dark-type category, as the ninth generation includes Mabosstiff, a purely Dark-type Pokemon with the fluffiest of fur. Don't be fooled by its intimidating appearance — even though it's a Dark-type, it is incredibly loyal to its trainer and loves to play with children.RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Farm Money Fast Although Mabosstif is more powerful, its pre-evolution is arguably scarier, as Maschiff is described as having a strong jaw and set of teeth that can crunch through boulders. However, even this evolution has been known to cause children to laugh.

7 Meowscarada

Players that chose Sprigatito as their starter Pokemon need to not worry about hunting the wilds of Paldea for their own Dark-types. The final evolution of this Grass-type cat is a dual-type of Grass/Dark.Meowscarada, the Magician Pokemon, uses its Dark-type moves to create floral illusions to amaze trainers. It also has the skills to set traps when it needs to surprise foes. It is also the only Pokemon that can learn the move Flower Trick, which will always hit its foe unless they are in a semi-invulnerable state.

6 Kingambit

The pokemon Kingambit just evolved in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Similar to other generations of Pokemon, Gen 9 has not only introduced entirely new Pokemon, but also added but also new evolutions for existing ones. Kingambit is a Big Blade Pokemon that evolves from Bisharp, after it has defeated three Bisharp that were leading a pack of Pawniard. This dual-type Dark/Steel Pokemon is incredibly powerful. It is the only Pokemon that can learn the move Kowtow Cleave. Like Flower Trick, this move will inflict damage to an enemy while ignoring the need for accuracym unless in an in-vulnerable state.

5 Roaring Moon

While exploring, players may stumble upon ancient Paradox Pokemon, which are in fact ancestors of previous Pokemon that players have been able to capture throughout the franchise. Roaring Moon is an example of this. It is an incredibly powerful Dragon/Dark-type Pokemon.RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Beat Ryme (Montenevera Gym Guide) Unfortunately, those that own Pokemon Violet will not be able to catch this ancient Salamence in the wild, as it is a Scarlet exclusive. If they wish to have this Pokemon they must get it through trading with a player from Scarlet.

4 Iron Jugulis

Another Paradox Pokemon that is also a Dark-type is the Iron Jugulis. Fans of the franchise may recognize the similarity of this enormous Flying/Dark type Pokemon with its less futuristic counterpart Hydreigon. Iron Jugulis acts exactly the same as its relative; however, many players would argue that it has a way cooler design.Unlike Roaring Moon, this Paradox Pokemon is exclusive to those that own Pokemon Violet. Once again, those that own Pokemon Scarlet will need to trade with someone that has the opposite copy if they wish to own Iron Jugulis.

3 Brute Bonnet

Continuing on with the theme of exclusive Pokemon, this is another that only players that purchased Pokemon Scarlet can catch while exploring Paldea. As another Paradox Pokemon, Brute Bonnet shares its likeness with the Amonguss, though it looks far more ancient.RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Change a Pokemon's Tera Type This may be a great addition for any player that hasn't picked Sprigatito as their starter, as it and Meowscarada are both Grass/Dark type. Arguably though, Brute Bonnet is far more powerful than the final evolution of this feline Pokemon.

2 Chien-Pao

Within the pool of new Pokemon introduced, there have also been new legendary Pokemon for players to discover and catch. One of these is the legendary Ruinous Pokemon, the Dark/Ice-type Chien-Pao. Its form mimics that of a snow leopard, with two sword-like fangs protruding from its mouth. As a legendary, Chien-Pao is incredibly powerful. Its strongest stat is its speed, and it also has an immense amount of base damage to inflict. It cannot be simply found around the map. Rather, players must go searching for the glowing rods around the map.

1 Chi-Yu

By far the greatest Dark-type Pokemon to be added with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the small yet mighty Chi-Yu. Just like Chien-Pao, this is another legendary Pokemon that has been added into the ninth generation of the franchise. This Ruinous Pokemon may appear to look like a fish, but it is made entirely of flames, which is why it has the dual-typing Dark/Fire. However, with its lack of legs, Chi-Yu can be found swimming through the rivers of lava it creates by burning the rock ahead of it.MORE: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: What do the Starter Evolutions Look Like?
