Since the release of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, players have had plenty of time to assemble their best teams. Given that the new games feature the franchise's first entirely open-world region, discovering and catching new Pokemon has never been easier or more fun. However, finding one specific type of Pokemon in the open world can be tricky.

This is particularly the case with Ghost-type Pokemon, which are already few and far between in the Paldea region. Nevertheless, diligent fans will be able to find plenty of useful Ghost-types if they take their time exploring. Until Pokemon Home functionality debuts in 2023, players can hold off on using Hisuian Zoroark by searching these six areas.

6 Artazon

If players are conquering each Gym Leader at their appropriate levels, they should encounter Artazon not long after departing on their Treasure Hunt. This town is where one of the eight gyms is located, along with its Grass-type Gym Leader Brassius. Nevertheless, the nearby area has many Ghost-type Pokemon in its vicinity.

For players approaching from Area Three of the South Province, they should spot Shuppet and Oricorio on their route. While Oricorio may not appear to be a Ghost-type, giving it Purple Nectar can change its form into its Ghost/Flying-type. For players wanting to put less effort into finding a Ghost/Flying-type, Drifloon can also be found around the area.

5 Zapapico

This town is located north of Artazon and west of Levincia, though it does not contain a Pokemon Gym of its own. It serves as a temporary pit stop before players enter the desert landscape of Area Three of the East Province. However, there are also several Ghost-type Pokemon that lurk nearby, which may prove useful in future storyline battles.

Aside from the previously-mentioned Shuppet and Drifloon, players can also encounter Sinistea, the pre-evolved form of Polteageist. Zapapico also contains a trainer who will give the player the item needed to evolve Charcadet into the Fire/Ghost-type Ceruledge. He requires the player to gather 10 Sinistea materials to make the trade, though this is only doable in Pokemon Violet.

4 West Province (Area Two)

Players will get a lot of opportunities to explore Area Two of the West Province, as the Gym Trial for the Water-type Gym of Cascarrafa requires them to pass through here. The area is also quite close to the Asado Desert, which is where players can catch Ghost-types like the new Bramblin, which is Grass/Ghost, a type previously exhibited by Trevenant and Dhelmise.

Closer to the area surrounding Porto Marinada, players can encounter more Drifloon, as well as its evolved form Drifblim. Players can also find Rotom in this area, which is Electric/Ghost before changing forms. A beach nearby also contains the Ground/Ghost-type Pokemon Sandygast, which was introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon.

3 West Province (Area Three)

Greavard sticking its tongue out in the wild

Though it's not too far from the previous area, players likely won't roam Area Three of the West Province until much later in their journey. However, players may spend time there leveling up their team before facing the Normal-type Gym Leader, Larry, in the town of Medali. Though Ghost-types won't help in this battle, there are some good ones to catch around here for later.

Drifloon and Drifblim make appearances in this area, as does Greavard, which evolves into Houndstone. This new Ghost-type Pokemon has caused quite a stir in the competitive scene due to its overpowered signature move. While it may be a good member of players' in-game teams, more competitively viable Ghosts in the area include Mimikyu and Dreepy.

2 South Province (Area Six)

Ghost-type Pokemon will be very important for facing the Psychic-type Gym in Alfornada, located in Area Six of the South Province. Fortunately, there are plenty of good options to catch in this area, including previously mentioned Pokemon like Drifloon, Drifblim, Sinistea, and Houndstone. However, there are others unique to this area, if players are willing to look.

By exploring the system of caves below Alfornada, players will encounter Ghost-type Pokemon like Banette and Sableye. There are even plenty of Fighting-type Pokemon in the area as well, which make for good opponents to level up new Ghost-types without having to make too many treks back to the nearby Pokemon Center.

1 Glaseado Mountain

Froslass after evolving in Montenevera

While this late-game area is mostly populated by Ice-type Pokemon, there are several Ghost-types that are common here as well. Houndstone and its pre-evolution are frequently found hiding in the icy ground, visible by the candle on their heads. However, there are other Ghost-types found near Glaseado Mountain and its Gym town, Montenevera.

One such Pokemon is Haunter, the evolved form of Gastly and pre-evolved form of Gengar. Getting the Poison/Ghost-type Gengar would be a valuable addition to any team, though Haunter only evolves via trading with someone else. For those who don't have access to other players to evolve their Haunters, they can also catch Froslass and Spiritomb nearby.
