A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fan has pointed out the similarities between Bellibolt and the Gen 1 Normal-type Pokemon Chansey, stirring up a conversation about the two. Part of the drip of information coming out about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet ahead of its November release is the Electric-type Gym leader and their newly unveiled Pokemon Bellibolt which have garnered the interest of the Pokemon community.

Although Electric-type Gym leader Iono has compared Bellibolt to Croagunk during the unveiling of the Gen 9 Pokemon, Reddit user KRev23 has a more apt comparison in an image that stacks Chansey up next to the Scarlet and Violet Pokedex entry. A recent trailer revealed the new Gen 9 Pokemon known as Bellibolt, and it quickly became a hit among the Pokemon community, with many creating unique artwork dedicated to it. Bellibolt will be among Iono's team which may also include the pink and blue Magnemite that she carries for players that take the Victory Road path of the game as opposed to the Path of Legends or Starfall Street.

KRev23's Pokemon Scarlet and Violet image was created with a screenshot of Bellibolt from the "Meet Bellibolt" video and one of the Pokemon Red and Blue Normal-type Chansey from the Pokemon anime. Both offer a close-up view of Bellibolt and Chansey that focuses on their smiling faces, highlighting that a color-swapped version of Chansey's face is inside of Bellibolt's face between its eyes. Showing one small difference around where Chansey would have pink fluttery wings coming out of the side of its head, Bellibolt has two round yellow eyeballs that are more piercing than the Gen 1 counterpart.

If the yellow and green of the Bellibolt is swapped to the pink tone of Chansey, the bright central part of its face that are the nostrils and smile become much more like the Normal-type Pokemon. Ignoring the similar faces shared between Chansey and Bellibolt, the two also have an uncannily similar bulbous build that Azumarill, Miltank, and Snorlax have in common to a lesser degree. Although a regional variant in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet hasn't been confirmed for Chansey yet, fans of the Gen 1 Pokemon and its stature or smiling face may find solace in having Bellibolt among their party of six.

Convinced so firmly by the comparison of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Bellibolt and the Gen 1 Chansey, one Reddit user proclaimed that the Electric-type is a regional fake akin to Wiglett which shares many similarities with Diglett despite having its own Pokedex entry. Other characters that Pokemon fans think Bellibolt is secretly related to include axolotls, Grimace from McDonald's, and Chef Kawasaki from Kirby.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release for Nintendo Switch on November 18.
