Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has introduced fans to over a hundred new Pokemon for players to encounter and then capture to use alongside them throughout their journey in Spanish-themed Paldea. With so many Pokemon, there are some that are considerably better than others. It's up to the players to choose which great Pokemon to utilize within their party, especially in the competitive scene of battling.

Ghost-types are one of the most favorable types in Pokemon, and also one of the best competitive type there is. Generation 9 Ghost-type Pokemon are among some of the best in the entire franchise.

Brambleghast evolves from Bramblin, and its base stat total is 480. Its best stats are easily its oddly high base Attack stat of 115, and its base Speed stat at 90. Brambleghast has a unique ability called Wind Rider that stats it doesn't take damage from wind-based moves, and they actually raise the Pokemon's Attack stat. Tailwind also raised the Pokemon's Attack, making Brambleghast a good choice in battle.

6 Houndstone

Houndstone is one of the many new dog-like Pokemon that were added into Scarlet & Violet's Pokedex. Houndstone evolves from Greavard when it levels up to level 30 or higher during the night. Houndstone is a pure Ghost-type Pokemon with a great hidden ability called Fluffy. Fluffy reduces the damage that Houndstone takes from physical attacks, but essentially makes the Pokemon weak to Fire-type moves.

Houndstone is a great Ghost-type Pokemon with some fair defensive stats. Its base stat total is 488, though players should focus on its base Defense stats and its Attack. Its base Defense is 100 while its base Special Defense is 97. Its Attack stat is what it should use when attacking, with a base of 101.

5 Skeledirge

Skeledirge also has great HP and Special Attack, with its base health stat sitting at 104, and its base Special Attack at 110. Skeledirge may be slow, but this Pokemon can be competitively viable as a pivot or wall against physical sweepers.

Rather than being more balanced with a lean towards the defensive side, Ceruledge is all about offense. (Still, Ceruledge does have good special-defensive stats.) Ceruledge has Bitter Blade as its signature move, which steals HP. The Pokemon also has a great base attack stat of 125.

3 Annihilape

Annihilape is now a Fighting/Ghost-type, giving it some unique type-effectiveness. Annihilape has some incredible stats all-around, but it is focused on the offensive with a base Attack of 115, base HP of 110, and base Speed of 90.

Gholdengo is one of the rarer Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and it's possible play through the entire game without ever knowing of its existence! That is because Gholdengo evolves from Gimmighoul only if the player has 999 Gimmighoul coins in their inventory

Gholdengo is a Ghost/Steel-type Pokemon, giving it nine resistances and only four weaknesses. Not only that, but Gholdengo has its own ability called Good as Gold, which makes the Pokemon immune to all status moves. Gholdengo also has great stats, with a base sum of 550. This Pokemon isn't a Paradox or Legendary Pokemon, making it one of the best common Pokemon in the franchise.
