Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Teal Mask DLC has brought back multiple Pokemon from previous generations. With 200 Pokemon, this brings Scarlet/Violet's initial 400 to a total of 600 Pokemon to catch in Paldea/Kitakami. There's no doubt more Pokemon will be added for the release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero's The Indigo Disk.

Returning for Gen 9, Aipom and its evolution, Ambipom, are Normal-type Pokemon exclusive to Pokemon Violet. This isn't the first time, and certainly not the last, where Pokemon were version-exclusive, as it has been an aspect of Pokemon since Red/Blue. Unfortunately for Pokemon Scarlet players, they'll need to get Aipom and Ambipom to complete the Kitakami Pokedex.

How to Get Aipom

pokemon scarlet violet aipom location

Pokemon Violet players can find Aipom just about anywhere in Kitakami, but the closest place to look is Reveler's Road, which is to the east of Mossui Town. It can also be found on the mountains near Kitakami Hall. Aipom's level will be scaled to match the player's progress in the main story. Those that have completed Path of Legends, Victory Road, and Starfall Street will find Aipoms around level 57. Those that are still in the progress of SV's campaign will instead find Aipoms around level 10.

Aipom may take a Great Ball or Ultra Ball to catch. If trainers are getting the low-level Aipoms, they can try and use a Nest Ball to catch it. This is a Poke Ball that has a higher catch rate when used on Pokemon that are lower-leveled.

Aipom and Ambipom can both be caught in Tera Raids in Kitakami. However, Ambipom is exclusive to 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids . Both of these are accessible by completing the main story and postgame respectively.

How to Evolve Aipom (When Does Aipom Learn Double Hit)

Aipom will evolve into Ambipom when it levels up while knowing the moveDouble Hit. It learns this move when it reaches level 32. If Violet trainers have a level 57+ Aipom, they may need to have Aipom Remember the Move. This can be done by going into Aipom's Summary, and tabbing over to Moves and Stats.

Low-level Aipoms can be leveled up quicker by feeding them Exp. Candy L or Exp. Candy XL.

How to Get Aipom in Pokemon Scarlet

Pokemon Scarlet players can get Aipom and Ambipom by trading with Pokemon Violet players. Doing so requires a Nintendo Online Membership Subscription. They can then access trades via the Poke Portal, then Link Trade.

Another way to get Aipom is to transfer one from Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl or Legends: Arceus. Those that also have a copy of Pokemon Violet can transfer one from there, too. To transfer Pokemon across console games, players will need Pokemon HOME. Here's what to do:

  1. Catch Aipom, and place it in a PC Box/Pasture.
  2. Open Pokemon Violet/BDSP/Legends:Arceus in Pokemon HOME.
  3. Move Aipom into HOME's Basic Box, then Save and Exit.
  4. Open Pokemon Scarlet in HOME, then move the Aipom to a PC Box in Scarlet.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
