With a November release date approaching, Pokemon Scarlet andViolet have been steadily showing fans more details. The latest trailer for the games shows off plenty of features for fans to get hyped about, including the open world in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, new Pokemon to catch, and a whole host of other features players of the franchise would expect from a new pair of mainline games. Something else shown in the recent footage was the cast of characters players will meet in the games, including a new gym leader.

For a while, fans had been speculating on what the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet gym leaders would look like, or if they'd appear at all. Considering Pokemon Sun andMoon ditched traditional gym leaders, some wouldn't have been surprised if the latest games followed suit. However, Pokemon Scarlet andViolet have confirmed they will have the traditional eight gym leaders to collect badges from, and have shown the first of those elite Pokemon trainers in the form of Grusha.

Grusha trains Ice-type Pokemon, showing off a new addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex in Cetitan. As well as showing off Grusha and her signature Pokemon, the trailer also told fans that they could take on the gyms in any order in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, implying that perhaps the game will scale with the level of the player's Pokemon, rather than having the gyms become harder through game progression. Alongside Grusha, a lot of new characters were introduced as well.

First, the trailer gave viewers another look at Sada and Turo, the Pokemon Professors in Scarlet andViolet, as well as some other characters the player is likely to gain information from, including Mr. Clavell, the director of the academy fans will attend, and Mr. Jacq, who teaches biology and is the protagonist's homeroom teacher. For characters closer to the main character's age range, there is Nemona, who many thought would be the rival in Pokemon Scarlet andViolet. The trailer seems to confirm that, but doesn't imply it will be a bitter rivalry, instead describing Nemona as a "battle-loving friend."

Arven is another student at the academy the player studies at, though, he is an upperclassman, so it's not certain what his role will be. Perhaps he will act as another friend or rival similarly to Dawn in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond andShining Pearl. Moreover, there's Penny, who is simply described as a shy student in the player's grade. There are other unnamed characters too who pop up in the trailer, so it seems Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have a large cast of characters to help and potentially hinder their Pokemon journey.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
