Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reveals a brand-new Pokemon that looks a lot like Diglett. Since the latest mainline entries in the Pokemon franchise were announced early in 2022, fans have been looking forward to all the new features that come with each pair of games. Already, with consistent trailers dropping for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans have seen the new Paldea region, the open-world features that come with it, and plenty of additional Pokemon for players to catch when the games finally launch in November.

The new Pokemon for Scarlet and Violet have been a mix of interesting creatures that have never been seen before in the franchise, and alterations on existing pocket monsters like the Paldean Wooper. Some of the brand-new Pokemon coming in Scarlet and Violet have been praised by fans for their unique designs, such as Ceruledge and Armarouge, both of which were likened to Mega Man bosses. Now, another new creature for the games has been unveiled, but some fans are confused by its design.

The new Pokemon coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was revealed through a fake webinar where Pokemon scientists were looking at a creature on a beach. With a white coloration, large pink nose, beady eyes, and a body that is mostly hidden underground, it is clear to see the resemblance between this Pokemon and Diglett. However, rather than this creature be a Paldean form of Diglett, it appears that it is a new Pokemon entirely known as Wiglett.

It is explained in the webinar that it is just a coincidence that Wiglett and Diglett share a similar appearance, as the former burrows itself in the sand while the latter is known to hide underground. A lot of the fake Pokemon scientists in the webinar are reluctant to give solid details on the new Pokemon at first, wondering if the Ground-type Diglett would choose to live near water as Wiglett does. However, as more discoveries are made, such as Wiglett's ability to lengthen its body, it appears that this is an entirely new Pokemon coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, just with a similar design to Diglett. Already, in Gen-7, Diglett was given a regional variant in the form of Alolan Diglett, so it seems Game Freak doesn't want to make another form of the same Pokemon and has instead designed a new creature entirely.

There are still plenty of details on Wiglett to be unveiled, and it seems more information will become available soon regarding the Pokemon. Other details besides new creatures have also been unveiled for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including the game's three-story branches. Unlike past entries in the franchise, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's narrative won't just focus on making the player Pokemon Champion, and instead has more options for gameplay.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
